Not seen another thread.
My comment on tonight.
Having won a national competition why were the college group selected to take part by Gareth.
Also of all the choirs this one is on the point of breaking up.
Bad decision by Gareth.
The fact they are from his home area I wont be surprised to see them win.

Not been finding this series as interesting as previous ones. I know it is edited down but the selection seems very arbitrary and don't think I have agreed with any. The worst was the church gospel choir basically singing gospel music, why not let the local Cathedral choir have a try?

Ah, found the thread; I was surprised there wasn't one earlier. I'm not finding this as good as last years, but still enjoying it. I thought he'd put the Sea shanty boys through as they were a bit different. The others feel a bit samey?

Have to agree. But didn't like sea shanty boys - not a choir in my opinion.
This series seems to be much more production driven and less of actual choices by Gareth. How come some choirs have only been together for a few months? - I'm in a choir that has been going 26 years - obviously only a few founder members left. 😵
Disappointed so far.

Surely if anyone was 'samey' then it would be one singing sea shanties? But several of the ones selected are 'samey'.

I thought that the Semi Toned were far and away the best choir of the three he shortlisted, and the group isn't exactly splitting up - the graduating members are leaving and no doubt were replaced after the next academic years auditions took place in October.

The sea shanty boys were a bit limited in there offerings, and I thought the Funky Little Choir just tried too hard to be different, and their lead soloist thought she was better than she actually is...... they should have allowed the red haired lady to take lead vocal.

It will be interesting to see how the final shapes up

I didn't mind the group he chose last night, but any of them would have been good, I liked the three of them.

Last week when he chose the gospel group I thought it was a poor choice.

This series and the last has a bit of a feeling of an exhausted idea to me. The military wives series was brilliant, and I also enjoyed the one with Company employee choirs, but these last two, not so much.

Part of that is the music choices - way too much beat boxing, wailing and shouting for my taste - but then I'm just old fashioned, I guess.

Ah, I see what you mean. I agree that the sea shanty boys would be limited by the types of songs they would do. I was more meaning that the successful choirs from each region are a bit similar. Thought he might want to put a group through that were different from the other regions.

Bit disgusted with the Gospel Choir as all the three finalists were asked to choose a song for their opponents, but Gareth asked them not to be mean. The Gospel Choir who seemed certain they were going to win chose a very difficult Gospel song for the Exeter University Choir, obviously thinking as they didn't have Gospel experience it would mean they were a shoo in to win. However the judges didn't fall for it and Exeter won. I was very happy for them they deserved it!

The performance of 'Candle In The Wind' by the University a cappella choir Semi-Toned in the semi-final was for me the highlight of the series.
