Lost - no spoilers please
I didn't know where to put this thread so if the mods want to move it to somewhere more appropriate feel free. I know it's a really old show now but when it was first broadcast I didn't have Sky so only saw I think the first series that was shown on Channel 4 (as far as I remember) in the UK. Anyway, it's now turned up on Sky box sets and I've started watching from the beginning, so far I've watched the first two episodes and I was wondering if someone can answer what might seem like a silly question. How was the remaining plane engine still able to run after the plane crashed, surely all the power and fuel connections would have been severed? I don't really want to turn this into a discussion about the show as I'm guessing most people have already seen it.
Thanks. |

You are so lucky to be watching the magical LOST for the first time !!
I was so hooked when I watched it and it helped me through some difficult moments in my life. Can't believe it took Sky this long to add the best TV show ever Lost to their library !And can I suggest to you a podcast watch-a-long? it's a couple watching LOST for the first time.. called "We're So Lost " ! and i''s fun to hear their opinions/thoughts and see them trying to figure things out.. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...C6OFBp9BglbJdR Are you enjoying it thus far? As the answer to your question.. I guess it's hard to answer that as with LOST everything is a mystery and it's all linked. So to avoid spoilers I wouldn't google too much these types of things ! |

Thanks for the replies, as I said I watched the first series when it was on but it was a long time ago now so don't really remember it, I always wanted to see it again and thought it might have been on Sky Atlantic before now.

I don't recall the wings breaking during the crash, so no reason why the engine should not work.
Spoiler
Really, no-one should have survived the crash, so you always have to consider the influence of the island on anything like this. Do enjoy watching, its one of my favourite shows, |

I just love the mysteries in this, and all the subtle little hidden things like literacy references in books in the background, what is on the TV etc.
I don't think any other TV show has put so much detail into every scene like LOST did. And the flashback method really works well in uncovering each characters secrets.. as you want to keep watching to see more.. it's teasing ! ![]() The twists in LOST are amazing, as you never know what to expect it is so unpredictable.. every episode keeps you hooked and begging for more ! No show has managed to capture the fan-cult LOST had, not even Game of Thrones or Walking Dead can match the LOST hype, popularity and discussions it had in it's pomp on Channel 4.. (yes FREE TV one of the greatest ever shows not like now where you have to PAY for Sky Atlantic etc) Literally EVERYONE was talking about it at work, school etc and like wondering what happened!? even casual fans..it was epic !

If you're expecting answers to things like this to be provided by show I think it's best you just stop watching it now!

Case in point... people are still talking about the show 12 years after it's debut.. that's impressive ! somehow I don't think Game of Thrones with it's very sexual nation or The Walking Dead with it's violence will have the same kind of longevity value.. they are products of their time, that's all !

Apparently it's quite possible for an engine to keep running after a crash.
Some real life examples given here. http://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=763827 It does say that the fact the engine is upside down in the Lost crash means it shouldn't still be running though. |

J.J Abrams always said LOST is about the journey not the destination. So even when the show ends you will still have questions about somethings, but that is what is good about J.J he leaves somethings open to interpretation which lasts the length of time.
The problem with it being about the journey and not the destination is that without a destination it has no focus or line of plot development, but that's my opinion. It is for this reason that despite liking the way Abrahms directs things I have avoided most of his stuff since until they finish and see what the reaction is. Maybe I'm just old fashioned and like a story to have a beginning/middle/end that is disectable, traceable and thoroughly able to stand up to basic scrutiny. |

Stop watching now. They made it up totally on the hoof as they went along. The whole thing is insulting to the audience and specifically contradicts what they said they would not do.
Still, at least this isn't Abram's biggest crime now he's bolloxed up Star Wars as well. |

looking back on it now i got so much pleasure from watching it. the ending and lack of answers to a lot of things was frustrating but actually matters less the more i think about it. |

What do you mean by that?

I doubt they ever said they had a full six-season show plan right from the beginning, so of course they had to pad out a bunch of stuff and include plotlines during the run.
They said they had a plan and they said that the resolution would NOT be the one fans floated after just the first season and then the ending was EXACTLY that one! It's got ZERO re-watch potential which is why it's fading into history and will soon hopefully be forgotten forever.

I think a lot of things were answered, but some things were not. We may grumble that some of the answers were not satisfying, but Lost was one of those shows where the questions were always going to be more intriguing than the answers. At least if someone wants to revisit Lost (wasn't there talk of a movie?) there are still things to find out.

It's an entire show run that basically ends with Bobby Ewing in the shower. The only time I ever talk about Lost now is to make sure no one else has to suffer it. The enjoyment/attraction of Lost to me was trying to figure out the mysteries but if the mysteries have no resolution then it all feels entirely pointless. |

Regardless, so long as nobody releases any spoilers (as you've stated in the title) I don't see the harm of a discussion.
