I just finished season one, enjoying it so far, I know it would spoil the plot but did anyone else think it odd that a plane flying over the Pacific Ocean didn't have life rafts onboard in case the plane had to ditch in the sea? Maybe it did and they were destroyed in the crash but this wasn't explained.

If you get too concerned about every detail you might be sorely disappointed by the final episode. That said I enjoyed the series right up to the end and thought in a way it ended well.

I'm definitely not getting concerned with every little detail, I was just making an observation, I've just started season 3 this morning, enjoying it all so far.

Glad you are enjoying it. Since you asked the question, I don't recall your observation having any significance, but I might be wrong. I am pretty sure you will watch it all!

there are some truly great episodes along the way , but that last season is awful
I thought that it was really good up until around the second half of the sixth and final season at which point it slowly started to become clear that we weren't really going to find what we were waiting for.

'Ab Aeterno' which was I think about halfway through the final season was a simply stunning episode, genuinely moving. After that, it all went steadily downhill.

It's so sad that a show which provided such fantastic TV over the course of six years ended up with such an utter cop-out of a conclusion.

I'm now about a third of the way through season 3 and I'm finding the Scottish bloke really annoying the way he keeps calling all the men "brother".

Did they run out of budget to put subtitles on screen? I've just watched an episode in season four that was pretty much all Sun talking to Jin in Korean and there were no subtitles so I had no idea what they were saying to each other, various flash forwards showed Sun giving birth, then Jin arriving at the hospital and giving the second stuffed panda toy to some other woman who had just given birth, the next minute Hurley turns up at Sun's home and they go to Jin's grave. As I said before please don't give anything away even through spoiler tags, I just wanted to say that I found that episode really confusing, but I am sure it will be explained eventually.

I remember what episode you're talking about but can't remember if it was supposed to have subtitles or not. I would have thought yes but can't say for sure.

Anyway, the episode itself was all self-contained and easy to follow, there aren't any reveals about it later. Not sure if you want an explanation?

Thanks for the reply, the following episodes had subtitles if needed, no need for an explanation as I'm a lot further on from that episode now, thanks. It's beginning to become rather confusing to me but I'm half way through season 5 and will carry on to the end even if it makes no sense as it's one of the shows I really wanted to watch when it was on originally and would have done if I had got Sky at the time.

Case in point... people are still talking about the show 12 years after it's debut.. that's impressive ! somehow I don't think Game of Thrones with it's very sexual nation or The Walking Dead with it's violence will have the same kind of longevity value.. they are products of their time, that's all !
I think those 2 you mention may well have, just as Lost and Heroes did from that era or Buffy and X Files from the 90's.

Heroes never really recovered from the writers strike after S1.

The good thing about watching a series again is you pick up so many things that you missed on the first watch.

Great show, may give it another watch myself.

so only saw I think the first series
If you only saw the first series then I'm afraid you have almost certainly already seen a massive spoiler in the form of Lost's own promotional material, unless you've been living under a rock you will already know who Henry Gale is.

How was the remaining plane engine still able to run after the plane crashed, surely all the power and fuel connections would have been severed?
It's been years since I saw Lost, but my recollection is that the engine was sitting there on its own, completely separated from the aircraft. If that was the case then there's no way it could have kept running. If it was still attached to the rest of the aircraft then there's a chance it could have carried on running. Channel 4 did a show called The Crash where they deliberately crashed a 727 (the pilots bailed out) to see what would happen. One of the engines did keep on running and the fire crews had to spray water into the engine intake to slow it down until it stalled, apparently this is something they're trained to do so it must be expected to some extent.

Last night I watched the eipisode in Season 5 where Hurley writes the screenplay for Empire Strikes Back and he says he made some improvements, I thought that was very funny.
