Well I'm just going from what my mither told me who was early twenties when Corrie started, and also a first generation University graduate, living with her parents in a two up, teo down terrace starting a teaching career so very similar to Ken and she claims most certainly not from her and her friends, school, unibversity, work, ecperiences.

I think the big change when cintraception becsme fereeely available whick was a few years later so mid 60s.

I suspect that teens in the 60s probably did, but not teens of the 50s which is what Ken and Susan were'

I'm not saying nobody did it and took the risk, of course they did but I do think it was a lot kess common or usual than Corrie nade it out to be when they introduced Lawrence.
Just because your mother didn't do it doesn't mean other people didn't. People have always had sex and one night stands and sex before marriage etc etc.

I don't understand how one character makes it common.

I'm well aware of that and I didn't just say my mother did I. I said her and her friends and contemporaries who were numerous annd I have spoken to directly about how society has changed, including sexual attitudes. Several of them were nurses as well so not sheltered from the world re pregnancies, abortions etc.

I also didn't say that nobody had casual sex or out of wedlock either did I. Just that it'was more unusual in 1960 than even 5 years later, partly due to The Pill becoming available.

Of course one character isn't indicitive but thete didn't even seem to be any surprise about it when this kid turned up. Sorry, but I know what the reactipn would be amongst the people I know the same age as Ken should it be revealed they'd produced a child out of eedlock at that time. 1970, not so much.

Anyway, I've stated my opinion based on snecdtotal evidence from dozens of people who were in their twenties at that time and in similar social positions. I don't claim to speak for everybody.

Re how Daniel knew, I assume Peter contacted him or Denise.
