Thanks for that, but Ben Webster plays tenor sax on that. He was "old school," modern jazz, his ballads played in the fifties and sixties were superb. Still sound as fresh today.
He died in 1973.

That's true of recorded music, but not of live music, the rights remain with the composer, lyricist and publisher unless they are sold on.

The classic were the Everly Brothers, who moved from Cadence to Warner Brothers. This meant they could no longer record songs written by F & P Bryant who wrote most of their hits, or even those they wrote themselves! As the rights to both belonged to Acuff-Rose and Wesley Rose wouldn't allow them.
So they recorded a Carole King song and made that a hit!

I would imagine the BBC has a department that handles all licencing for music. It might be a bit of a legal minefield.
