I agree about Lee's depression but Kim's driving test? That's surely going make people tune in.
Obviously there are stories that won't please everyone and I don't like Kim but I like the character ahem driven (sorry ) element to the show.

It's been better in the last few weeks than it has been for some time now. Some people need to understand that Soaps don't need to be so over the top all of the time. Eastenders got so lost under DTC to the point that people have forgotten that his ways were not the norm.

The only thing happening is all the interesting characters are leaving.

So Lees Depression and Exit.
Masood Leaving.
Jays Drug Issues.
Ronnie and Jack and the build up to there wedding.
Phil needing a Liver.

That in my eyes is tons happening, yes it might not be sensational, and it may need a brain cell, to look a bit deeper into what's happening, but for me, Eastenders is again something not to miss. I hardly watched any of DTCs last year

That's just 5 stories, with Phil's liver storyline been well over 12 months.
Masood is going soon and its hardly a big storyline, Jay's drug problems really haven't been done that well as so much of it happened off screen and looks like its come to a conclusion now.

Ronnie and Jack is a pairing that has never really worked and they have barely featured in any storylines this year anyway and knowing R&R are off soon and by the sounds of it a crap exit, its hard to be interested.

Lee's depression is about the only good storyline and even that has been dragged on a little too long IMO.

I think the problem really is, where are the next lot of storylines coming from? They've hardly introduced a new storyline since SOC took over. Surely by now we should have a little bit more going on. Apart from the stabbing from the last episode, I'm really struggling to think of anything else!

Why are people blaming SOC.

He would have been asked when taking over, how he sees the shows future they must have agreed to it.

I think people are also forgetting that Alex Lamb may still have been working at this point, meaning SOC didn't want to start any of his 'big' ideas until he had a new chief storyliner in place. I suspect we'll see some really strong new stories emerging from the new year.

Im the odd out, I am really enjoying the show at the moment, nothing sensational, the storylines are there in the background even if you dont see them on air, The Lee stuff may not be full blown, but you can work it in your mind

Yes, exactly. Whether the current direction is SOC's own vision or whether he's acting on instructions from above is pretty much irrelevant, it will all have been signed off by the channel controller or whoever. He can only do his own thing within the parameters he's been given and I think we're only now starting to see his real work, so it's next year that will count.

What do you mean. It's gripping! And if the bins are featured in the same episode I am in danger of exploding with excitement.

To be fair, I am quite liking EE at the moment but I could live without some of "story" lines. Masood leaving is another. He left once - why did they bring him back only for him to leave again?

Good point.

Didn't I read that Gillian Richmond was being brought in? I definately read that somewhere.

Regardless, who replaced Lamb as Story Producer will be interesting.
