I don't agree with this. It is a bit more watchable now however it still needs some improvement. I would say axing of dead wood characters and new more interesting ones. I like the fact there are now more Barlows. I think they still need to get the McDonalds out of the Rovers and split up Roy and Cathy.

If they split up Roy and Cathy though, what would they do with her?

Edit: Ooh 7,000 posts

I'm managing to miss it without giving it any thought.

The Maria storyline sounds ridiculous.

It's still crap imo. Mcbattersby baby, has to be one of the worse current sls Jane is a great actress but is getting crap material like this, the forced scenes with Leanne/Michelle and grumpy Nick being involved just makes this sl even more terrible.
The ridiculous Maria sl, she's dull and Aiden going from not wanting anything to do with her to now burrowing up her ass is eye roll worthy. Caz is an awful actress, she needs to disappear for real.
David trying to blow people up and kill himself one day, then the next acting like nothing happened? Is anything going to happen to him or is Gareh also going to keep quiet so he can shag Sarah.

It's OK.

I like the Gary and Sarah relationship and both Adam and Daniel returning.

I think it's the best of the big 3 at the moment but it's still not consistently good, there are episodes here and there which make you think it's getting better and then that's dashed away by a crap one.

I do think it's getting there.

It's definitely better than Emmerdale this week

I'm finding it dreadful at the moment. The last episode I thought was good was Kylies Death.
Corrie have some great actors and actresses but the storylines are terrible. ATM I watch Corrie, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks and Corrie is nowhere near as good.
This is all in my opinion.

Couldn't disagree with that

It just shows the effect that a new producer has on the show.

Stuart Blackburn is better as a writer, whereas Corrie and Emmerdale have both improved in terms of story and characters since he left as producer.

Kate Oates has created fantastic stories and brought back characters that are relevant to the show - i.e. Peter, Adam, Daniel, Toyah and Rosie.

The stories have been executed well as well. It is nice to have surprises as well with so many spoilers released to the media.

Agree with all of that.

Except the part about Blackburn being a good writer. His Emmerdale episode this week felt sooo wrong. Almost all the dialogue felt stunted and contrived.

I'm enjoying it. I love the Barlows. I like Michael turning detective RIP I guess. I like Sarah with Gary.

Watched 5 minutes tonight.

Still the same abysmal car crash of contrived meetings and suspensions of reality.

It is Coronation Street only in name.

Oh God the dreaded meet in the street. You'd think the residents of Corrie just walked in circles all day accidentally bumping into each other.

I think the stories have improved however, character interaction is better (ie bigger range) and I like the returns. But still a lot to work on.

I totally agree.

It's also Oates retconning all its past events and characters

I thought tonight's episode flowed sweetly in parts.

Don't get me wrong, it's far from perfect -- but one episode is so much better than the double bills. Especially when it picks up from the night before as opposed to an hour ago.

Within the first 10 seconds there was a contrived moment with Todd walking into the pub just as Phelan was proposing

Eh?!! He's featured in one episode so far......seems a little premature to be saying this already

Plus he comes across like a bellend. I don't know what he was like in his original stint, but it is laughable he has turned up on this street after an absence of nine years and throwing his weight around and has already made two enemies.
