Can we just appreciate what great presenters Ant and Dec are?

Love them, the show wouldn't be the same without them and I would not watch if they were replaced
I'm with you, L.O.V.E.

My Canadian wife is puzzled by them. Having lived most of her life in Canada, she'd never heard of them before and can't understand why they seem to be everywhere and what a big deal they are over here. I have to agree. They're not bad presenters but not great either.
Can't you just explain it to her Surely presenters in Canada aren't all amazingly better

I think they're pretty good and for me have often been the only entertaining thing about the show. Certainly the trials can be very boring and without A&D they'd be completely unwatchable.

I can't explain it because I don't get it either. I never said Canadian presenters are all better, not sure how you're reading that into it. I just assume average Canadian presenters arn't all over everything on their telly and treated as some kind of national treasure.

They are not as good this year as they have nothing to work with but that's the person who castes this series fault.

Blame dull worst series ever

I don't dislike them. I just don't see the need for both of them.

Probably are hilarious if you're in primary school.
As I said earlier as both of them are very immature for middle aged men kids tv would be more suited.
They aren't in any way funny, they have just never grown up, imagine having them 2 living near by - creepy or what.
Bib oh ok then. Discussion over.

Ah I see. I didn't actually know they were all over everything as I only watch IAC with them as presenters and like I said I think they're pretty good at it and I'm certainly not surprised that they've won TV awards as presenters. I can't really think of many really great ones in the UK. I'd say A&D are among the better ones.

As for Canada I just thought they too would have presenters that your wife didn't appreciate and so that would be some kind of explanation re A&D. It happens that not everyone likes the same thing.

I don't like them and the show would survive without them, everyones replaceable and they aren't bigger than the show. Their supposed humour isn't funny and is extremely immature
I'd put money on the show losing millions of viewers if they were replaced..

I totally agree. I think it would be a disaster for the show if they left. As much as it's interesting to see the celebrities interacting with each other, I think a LOT of the viewers also watch the show to hear Ant and Dec's jokey talks. After all, they win an award every year, so a LOT of the viewers must love them as presenters.

I'm not a fan of corny jokes so I skip past them. Having said that I think that their popularity is the only thing that keeps this tired old show afloat.

I think they're excellent & for some reason they make daft jokes work, however I get the feeling their heart isn't in it quite so much as previous series.

Thier act has got tired and repetitive, if ITV want this show to survive they need to find a new host and cut out all the flashback and up and coming montages after every ad break, just let the viewers watch and find out for themselves what is happening, we don't need to be constantly reminded about what's happened every ad break.

Yes, I must admit you tend to forget they've been doing it now for 14 years. It is scripted, but they were and presumably still are involved in the preshow meetings and what does and doesn't work. Also in the early days there was more ad libbing, which was effortless and funny because of their great friendship and natural interaction with one another. I do love them, and they still have amusing moments, but have to concede something's not right this year and it does sound more like they're reading the autocue.

Too big a risk. The X Factor and Top Gear stand out as examples of what can happen to a show when the cast undergoes huge changes, with both seeing horrific declines. Considering the show is in it's 14th year it's ratings are stunning in an age of catch up and low attention spans - they'd be silly to jepordise it in any way.

As for Ant and Dec, I think they're brilliant at hosting the show. Yes, the script is written for them but what makes them so good is they can carry it off as though they're their own words and ideas. I can't think of any other current British TV host which can do that.

Regarding the ad libbing, normally it's based on a mistake one of them's made on air which they then run with. They've been annoyingly efficient this year.
