The owner of DS, Hearst, has announced plans to make cuts to its online services which includes downsizing DS.

As long as the forums are kept intact I don't really mind as the news side of Digital Spy has been poor for a long time, especially since it became full of "32 reasons why..." Buzzfeed style articles.

Mark Sweeney, the Media Business Correspondent for the Guardian has Tweeted this:

Publisher Hearst to make cuts incl shutting youth site Sugarscape + http://Reveal.co.uk and downsizing @digitalspy

I wonder how it will be downsized?

They surely won't get rid of such an excellent forum.

Can you post a more specific link. I can't see any reference to it in that mass of articles.

I imagine it'll just come down to cold hard clicks. If the forum proves to be more trouble than it's worth, i don't think they'll have any qualms about closing it - especially since it's likely not bringing in huge amounts of ad revenue either.

I suppose nothing lasts forever, and in the internet age, it has shown remarkable longevity so far.

Really? What kind of moron actually visits the main page these days. You'll just drown in pop up ads anyway

I actually do occasionally look at some of the links on the top of the page, but mainly tech and movies more than anything.

Perhaps we'll all move to the Sleeping Dogs forum ?. They love me over there

They can get rid of digitalspy.com completely as far as I'm concerned. There are far better places to read the news. This forum (.co.uk) on the other hand is a treasure trove. The Big Brother forum alone is one of the biggest there is.

Can you think of any others we could all migrate to? That one is a bit bland.

We could create our own.

Do we dare say 'we told you so' when they decided to change the the entire editorial focus of the site to follow buzzfeed, get an awful new design in and end up becoming little more than a load of gifs and emojis?

But all the content is free provided by us, whereas the editorial content has to be paid for as well as image rights, etc.

There's one forum I would have no problem recommending but Sally would probably kill me

Easier said that done. While it's easy enough to create your own forum, it's a whole other ballgame keeping it running and keeping it moderated properly so it's not overrun with trolls and spambots.

I doubt it'll come down to "content" though - it'll be how much ad revenue the forum pages generate and if the majority of people use adblockers while using the forums because the ad placement, and usage, is so flaky, then they'll very likely see that it's not paying for itself and paying enough to cover the staff to keep it moderated.

It's a boring forum, the same 3 posters quoting each other with inanities page after page. Consider it an honour ro be disliked over there!

I think it's a great honour

Although I must admit to being rather amused at finding out that one of the DS Mods posts over there though. They probably didn't realise that the "secret" they revealed about me would have only ever been known by the mods here because I've never mentioned it on the forum in any aspect.
