Not a chance. There are far less active forums.
There's no cost per forum necessarily, just an overall hosting cost and the moderation effort and I should imagine most of the time has to be spent in GD.

I went to have a look only to realise I haven't been there since my computer went for a fix in the early summer and I had to reload no-script. The page is mostly blank because I never whitelisted it.

Like those Freeview and Sky forums could be merged into broadcasting.
Not sure if you were being ironic but if they did it would be effectively be a massive middle finger to members who have supported the site since the early days.

For the benefit of those that weren't around then, DS never used to cover any of the reality TV or soap nonsense. It was primarily a media/tech news outlet.

Just one of many reasons IMO. There are also way too many trolls/WUMs/Sock accounts these days and the majority aren't even humorous.

Trouble is that most of them are now inactive, I only would know to post what ever is news regarding Freeview which also be posted in Broadcasting forum.

This is absolutely correct. I've been here since the forums began, having been visiting one of its predecessor forums, the ONfaq forum. This the Digital Spy forum homepage as it appeared soon after launch, in June 2000: http://web.archive.org/web/200006191...n/Ultimate.cgi. No showbiz gossip back then, and the ONdigital and Sky Digital forums were by far the busiest!

Wow! Digitalspy looked like an early version of AVForums. In fact they looked like most forums back then. Or at least the ones I was into.

I really hope that all that has been written on the forums remains online, I've written quite a lot and don't want to see it disappear from the internet.

DS is becoming less relevant to some people because of the censorship of certain topics.
I don't post much but have looked on for a couple of years and have noticed the culling and banning of posters who have dared to criticise a certain religion.
Best not say what one.

This is a privately owned Forum and as such free speech dies not exist.
Fair enough but overly obsessed Mods are ruining it.

Funnily enough, I'm never really conscious of the 'main site'. I just start typing 'dig...' in my address bar and I get the forum address come up, click on that and off I go. I forget there's anything else to this site other than the forums, and maybe that is the issue ?

Yup. I joined up for the Sky and Satellite forums back in the day. I still never visit the main site.

Having seen a forum close I fear you hope in vain. What we write here is as ephemeral as the words we speak every day.

I will be very sad if this closes. This and QVC is the way I get my brain to close off about work.

I dont visit other parts of the site either, its not relevant to me.

So what are my choices for light hearted chit chat and discussion of current affairs with regards to other forums?

From the writing on the wall thread

This thread is a work of fiction. While there are some aspects of the site being affected by change, the forums are not part of this.
I suspect some will insist on the above being written in blood before they believe it 🙄🙄
