I don't understand how in the age of technology with so much media, so much tech that so many of the tech world is failing.

Twitter laying off many people and many other companies I've read this year. How can technology be the future with so many things that aren't safe? I thought every form of technology was the future... Yet all I ever seem to read is layoffs amongst technology companies.

It's not news when a tech company hires workers. Same as the FTSE, small incremental rises are not reported, but the falls hit fast and the media loves them.

Ah yes, of course. Media loves failure and or media likes to build things up for them to come crashing down.

Just an observation. Tech is thriving and markets too. But you did why-o-why on the layoffs.

There are a lot though. Microsoft, Intel and the likes.

Im old enough to remember the dot com bubble, perhaps we are witnessing a new take on it, these are very uncertain times for the tech industry.

Yes. Almost like the whole point of the sector is to employ fewer people.

Thats exactly what will happen, as technology advances it will require even fewer technoworkers, if the forums survive then it will be in a limited form with a skeleton staff overseeing it.

It has always been like this, decades ago Apple was almost bankrupt and was helped by Microsoft as they cancelled the patent disputes and investied in Apple to prevent them from failure, the condition was that Microsoft made software for the Mac.

In the games and home computing market Commodore went bankrupt as did other computing companies who were making computers back in the day.

There have always been winners and losers in technology, Twitter has never successfully been able to monetize itself and has been living on borrowed time.

Ad-blocking is playing a massive part in some sites success no doubt affecting Digital Spy, probably 40% of users using it (at least) and therefore 40% less revenue for them, brought about by their own mismanagement of ads and greed accepting ads which were just way over the top in terms of affecting user experience.

In the case of Twitter it was massively overvalued to begin with. The site owners failed to control abuse (trolls etc) and thought they could bury their heads in the sand and let things tick over. Now that the glory days are over and they are looking to offload it, it is becoming clear that investors wont touch it with a 10ft barge pole. To fix the underlying problems would require a massive shake-up that could well alienate existing users into leaving so its a bit of a catch-22.

I agree, self defeating when they allow ads to make the the site more difficult to use.
Currently even with ad block the page jumps sideways and then drops.
