There needs to be actual content instead of clickbait for a comments system to work.
The forums are supposed to be the comments but we never see links and a thread.

Though you probably would have left it buggy and borked it within a couple of weeks.

Really? 16 years of posts and user data, that we all know is corrupted, done in a day?

I don't think anyone is doing anything now before Christmas for obvious reasons.

The search is screwed, and that will be due to corrupted tables. Surely everyone knows search is buggered?

If you read the DS announcement at the top of every sub-forum, they explain why its screwed!
Forum size, shit software, too much to process = can't cope!
Sod all to do with corruption!

I've worked with vBulletin forums. Trust me, the data will be a mess.

In any case, does it matter? They did a test export recently, so they can work on the new software. Then once they know what to tweak and edit, they'll suspend write access again and do it for real.

That isn't going to happen over Christmas, unless they've decided to pay someone purposely to do it at a perceived quiet period. However unlike doing work on roads or railways that are naturally quieter at Christmas, I suspect the forum will actually be busier.

I'll be amazed if the actual migration happens before January.
If the problems on the forum are anything to go by for what they need to fix/tweak, its going to take several weeks of writing, testing and more testing before they feel they have what it required to not have a forum essentially bricked on revamp day!

So that is the reason the search is buggered. Corrupt tables.

Losing the forums would be bad, but even worse is what's happened with the articles on the site itself. As far as I can tell, there's no comments allowed on any of the articles and that's been the case for a very long time now. It means that you have to scour the forums to see if someone's talking about the article and, if not, start a thread of your own about it - all very inconvenient!

That also makes click bait articles all the more pointless, as often stupid things are posted to generate traffic from people arguing about it.

I am sure the Daily Mail makes a fortune from comments slating the article, author or paper.
