The main site has been going to shit for years. The forum (excluding the Music section) is the only thing worth visiting on DS. Take that away and there's nothing left of any worth.

I mainly use the Forum. Perhaps all the cash to be made is people clicking on the ad's in the articles?

Sadly the connection between the forums and the main site is all but gone with no more commenting allowed under articles or contributions from DS members (I remember an article by carl waring defending the licence fee attracting considerable debate )

Now it's all listicles making DS a poor man's Buzzfeed.

the worse thing they ever did was remove the comments. and for some reason get obsessive over animated Gif's. Its so annoying some stories are in dire need of a good rant over

When they had the survey a month-or-so back, it was very hard to just say "I go to Digital Spy for the Forums, didn't know there was another thing attached to it"

Without the forums I won't bother with the site at all, the 'News' sections are poor and nothing you can't find elsewhere if you enjoy reading tittle-tattle.

Which stories? 'Sheldon's Top 10 Bazingas', 'Finally we've ranked the best Katie Price moments' etc

Even if I disagree with an awful lot of people on here, the forums are bloody brilliant. I don't see the theory that they've become a lot less busy either, which I've seen people say, but others may be better informed than I on certain forums.

Yahoo "upgraded" the instant Messenger a while back to make it completely unusable.
It no longer shows if your contacts are online or not - so you have to message someone you may want to talk to in the hope they may be online.

So would not put it past Hearst to "upgrade" the forums to make them unusable.

The forums on the whole are genuinely interesting with some fascinating views but if there needs to be a cull of some may I suggest the ever expanding (and IMHO) ridiculous number of sports commentators threads which do nothing but list every commentator on every tv & radio station ( who actually gives a toss who is commentating for radio Kent in the FA cup tie tonight) would be a decent place to start

If the forums do go, time to move to Reddit.

The main site has been getting worse and worse for years (as most of you have already said). It used to be a reliable news source providing information hard to come by elsewhere (you know things are bad when they stop doing ratings on a site dedicated to media) but in recent times it seems to be turning into one of those sites you'd see pop up on your Facebook newsfeed with awful clickbait stories that are set up purely to generate clicks; there's no actual substance to many of the stories they post anymore. The forums are the only thing that have really held my interest on DS (even if I I'm more of a lurker than a poster) and it'll be a great shame if they go; I daresay it would mark the beginning of the end of DS (at least as we've known it, it would likely become solely a clickbait tool). I think removing comments from articles on the main site was a stupid decision to be honest (in this day and age comments on pages are something becoming more common not less) but I sincerely hope they're not stupid enough to axe the forums too.

I only come here for the forums anyways, the news page is a total joke, full of click bait headlines, and worthless graphics / gifs which in no way relate to the story.
Forums in general have been in decline due to the huge rise in social media like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and so on. I hope that this forum does survive but if not then I'll probably go over to AV forums which is about the nearest equivalent as far as I can tell.

I gave up visiting the news site after they kept spoiling my favourite US shows. Not everyone watches at US pace. Now I just go straight to the forums.

I use Digital Spy Forums almost everyday and at times I find ithem useful so would not be to happy if that part of Digital Spy closed.
I do use other parts of Athens a Digital Spy site as well but not as much as I use the forums.

The Forum Support page have shut down a forum on the soap section regarding this matter. They wrote that there are no current plans to close the forums down, lets just hope that this is right. Hopefully it will continue, this site is very good for Forums and I would miss posting on here if it was shut down.

Sorry marke09, only just seen your post!

I've seen site admins claim nothing was happening before, only for exactly what was being speculated to come to pass. They'll deny it until they're ready to make a formal announcement, even if it is true.
