If they do get rid of the forums then we'll have to all band together and create a new forum. It'll be easy just use DS as template, use a forum host such as invisionfree, get a relatively cheap host so we could get a domain name such as TheDigitalSpyForums.net or similar.. all depends on copyright etc with the Digital Spy name.

All we'd need is some reliable volunteers to be mods etc, and we'd be sorted. We could even create a feeder website and make it how DS was before they ruined it, for news etc

It would be a shit load of work, but worth it.

Posted this in the other thread about this but thought it might be interesting here too.

As far as I can tell all digitalspy.co.uk visits are redirected directly to digitalspy.com, except for forums.digitalspy.co.uk which stays on .co.uk

The forums at .co.uk on their own get about 7.8m visits per month, spending on average 5m27s on the site and visiting 4.44 pages per visit. The bounce rate here is lower at 55%. 12% of the traffic on the forums links back to the main website. https://www.similarweb.com/website/f...gitalspy.co.uk

Getting rid of the forums would be a rather large chunk of their traffic at about 30% if my reading of the stat's is correct. A 30% that spends more time on the site than other visitors on average.”

It's generally believed that it's the celeb gossip stuff that has turned the Mail Online into the biggest English language news site on the web. That's why other sites are trying to repeat the formula. Problem is that there's now so many showbiz/entertainment news sites/blogs (professional and amateur) and all of them have to compete with the social media monsters.

I'd like to see an end of these lazy pure click bait sites that say "20 great looking actors who are now ugly" and the like. They drag you in when you're bored but they're worthless really.

I remember when DS used be the place referenced by other big organisations. There used to be actual journalism on the main site rather than cobbling together stories from other places and regurgitating it. Take this article from today It's just basic information that is available anywhere but obviously the primary source is the Evening Standard as they have had to say that's where the info has come from.

That news story looks like a blog post.

I have noticed that , it used to be quoted rather a lot but I haven't seen it for ages.

Forums communities always survive, the forum I spend my time on Haven was an offshoot of the old Dotmusic forums as is Buzzjack and that other one I have forgotten and most of us have been there since Dotmusic shutdown must be about 14 years now. If they shut this time the community will just move and make their own,

I have noticed a major decline on the site especially for music but the forums were and are always the best thing.

Reading about digital buzz spy reminded me of this video on lazy tech journalism by the guardian (video is a computer / apple repair owner based in NY)

I saw the message 'We have no plans....' Of course that doesn't mean all the forums (or some of them) will not be removed to save costs.

Forums across the web have been in decline for several years now. But that is mainly due to the kind of vile language that we have all seen in commnets below every flippin' YouTube video, even the teletubbies get a racist kicking on there !!!

Happily, DS Forumers are not hate-filled morons, and so that will not be the reason to shut us down.

If social media becomes the only platform in 4 - 8 years time I'm going to be depressed. Probably more like pissed off. I hate trend following. That is what life seems to be these days. Follow the herd.

How about an official statement from DS?
is it: ?
A. Nonsense.
B. thinking about it.
C. going to happen....

If the forums are to be kept, please fix the search button.
Searching a database is not normally rocket science, yes I know the Google method can be used.
Thank You.

At least this is avoiding discussing about the licence fee, Don't bother people as this thread is about Digital Spy changes.

The search button isn't going to be fixed - they made that clear years ago. They also have no plans to upgrade the forum software to something more modern either.

That, and the fact that the advertising on the forum suffers from frequent problems all points to the forum being first up on the list when they're discussing what to "downsize".

If they actually had any interest in keeping the forum going, I do think they'd have been more pro-active in keeping it up to date and working.

I'm surprised this forum doesn't have a bad language filter. Most I've been in nowadays have nearly had them all implemented. Even those who try to use derogatory remarks towards women will be starred out.

Youtube can be a real cesspit. No idea why though.

It does have a filter. Try and type the f-word or the c-word, it censors them before posting.
Other language is up to you to use in correct context but the rules make clear using to be offensive or aggressive is not allowed.

YouTube comments are just pathetic keyboard warriors who haven't got the stones to say even 1/10th of what they say online to someone in person.

I asked a while ago about the ability to block someone on here, but the only function available is you hide them but they can still see you. No plans to change that either unfortunately. Software is basic and not a custom job

Me neither

I prefer forums more cilvilised and moderated so there's less trouble

Why do you have a problem discussing the LF? no one forces you to join in....

A couple of things don't work for me any more. I can't find a forum link in the heading and can't return to an overview of a thread I'm viewing - I have to click on the forums generally to go back. Plus there are continuing issues with search. This seems like the writing on the wall to me - ie that the forums are being downgraded. I am mainly here for the forums so if they take these away, it will be bye bye Digital Spy.

Because most of those "discussing" it are in fact just whinging and flaming the BBC at every opportunity, with no constructive discussion.

The forums are not supposed to be a soap box for people to preach their message

What is the point of slagging off a TV broadcaster all of the time, Life is too short.

Nor are the forums supposed to be for stalking and trolling behaviour for those who don't agree or like their opinions. There are several members who act this way. One is very obvious that starts with A.
