Averages for UK sites are about 10-20p a click. So a few thousand of them a day would be a million in 4-5 years
And thanks to the pages which bounce around as they load must generate quite a fair amount from accidental clicks!

It makes you wonder why so many sites want to go down the Buzzfeed/clickbait route when it ends up biting them on the ass.

As a TV/media graduate, DS used to be really good 10-5 years ago. The rating round ups, general media news and opinion pieces were always good reads. It was a mature website.

Now it's like it's written by 12-year-olds. The gifs, the emojis, the "OMG!!" style headlines. Since when did OK magazine take over?

Hopefully the new 'trend' is for media companies to revert back to more serious websites and put an end to the clickbait.
It was a sad day when the ratings roundup ended, Plus the media section is not really used now: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/media

As for clickbait well even people on social media have stopped falling for them, People like information not rubbish.

I always loved to read the Showbiz page, but now find it impossible with all the pop ups. Then I installed ad blocker and now it is slightly better, but unfortunately it makes me feel queezy with all the moving items on the page. Find I can only glance through it for a couple of minutes if that without feeling sick. I love the forums and would be very upset if they go. I don't object to adverts as I know they pay for the site, but the moving pop ups and video clips flashing around are just too much for me.

And then you wonder why the forums gone down the pan.
How are they expected to make money to fix & maintain the forum when the money
they make through ad revenue is running at a loss due to Adblock
It's a vicious circle, but DS only have themslves to blame! The ads on DS are far too obtrusive, slow the site down, and as others have said contained malware on a few occasions. I'd be happy to allow safer & more subtle adverts to help pay towards DS, but until then I will keep using Adblock Plus.

Good post. Especially agree with BIB. The internet isn't exclusive to 12 year olds!

I only signed up to the forums on Monday but have been visiting and reading both the site and forums for years. I agree with many comments here using this site on a phone with all the advertising is impossible without an add blocker. I have also noticed the main page has gone down the pan. If Hearst want digital spy to be successful again they have to go back to basics by been a media and entertainment news site again.

One thing we can all do to help is to not post anything capable of causing legal problems for the website.

Obviously we have to take responsibility for what we post, but the website does too, so the owners and/or editor can easily be landed in trouble by what we post, regardless of any terms and conditions.

Makes you wonder how Facebook copes. Every profile is a multitude of forums, effectively, so how can they police all that?

I remember when Digital Spy released that ghastly website we have at the moment as a beta.

The comments on the DS Forums was near universal condemnation. Regardless, they went ahead with it and made the beta their official website design.

So now I hear that the website isn't doing too well and is being downsized.

Regarding the forums, we may want to look at setting up a freeforum that we know about before these get shut.

I really hope they don't get rid of the forums, like other users I rarely visit the main page and it is useful when you want to find out something about a tv show etc

So, it looks like the forums are safe considering they're going to be totally new platform which i hope (And pray) includes the ability to totally block someone!
You don't really go that much effort and cost to then dump 6/12 months on!

A ban amnesty though! I really hope this doesn't mean the return of tools like DanSky+HD and other idiots who got the boot.
I have no problem with the return of the ones who got bans for next to nothing!
(I once got banned for asking what an abbreviation was, 2 weeks worth!!)
Jail and downvoting available too, which i think is good!

I think the forums should be seperate can they not do that? since the last rejig the site is piss poor I'm afraid and a lot of good features gone. I reckon shifting the forum to another site would be good with maybe ads to the news site if anyone wanted to look at that. The new forum could be less weighed down and a lot of the features could be a lot better maybe improve the search too as its a joke at the moment. I also only come here for the forum so if that goes I wont bother looking at the news site as its clickbait bollocks I have no interest in.

I just link to the forum - the only time I ever see anything of the main site is when I accidentally click 'Home' rather than 'Forums' above.

But DS is pretty much broken anyway and must surely be limping away struggling not to crash for good.

I do sometimes get the impression there's a state of the art Intel MMX 800 MHz PC sat in a corner knowing the end is near and waiting to "go for a ride to the vets" proudly serving up DS.

Any improvement is welcomed just to drag it in to the last decade. Perhaps it may even cure the advert, double scroll bar and malware problems!

yes , but not so sure about new emojis, I do hope they remain static and we do not get the place littered with dancing animated emojis, I find them really off putting and tacky.

As in, from the frontpage?

Is there a complete list of changes?
