Why do they keep changing it, what a joke the Main page has become that hardly no one uses anymore.

The forums are bearable yet keep getting worse, I wonder the mess they will make of it this time, they'll be sorry when it's to late.

It's the forums that make the site. Like so many people on here, I too used to enjoy reading the various articles on the main site. After they changed it, it just went completely downhill.
I enjoy coming here to read the discussions and reply to the various topics that interest me.
If they remove the forums, they'll have lost, in essence what made the site in the first place; the DS community.

Just read the announcement. Will be interesting to see how they manage to move everything over

Embedded Media? Oh please no, that is one of the worse things they can do

I worry ( well not worry but you know what I mean ) that it may just ending up looking a mess like so many other sites do if you go to far down the animated emojis and embedded media style.

The main pages could do with returning to their original format where people can comment.

Not necessarily the layout of the home page but the notifications, search and other functions that I guess is what's in The current software version (probably ds spy forum is 10+ years old)

DS forum software is very old.

New forum software all offer notifications and post voting of some kind. It will be great to see DS upgrade. I'm very intrigued as to what software they've chosen, but anything will be better than vBulletin 3 they are using now (the most recent vBulletin is 5, but it's not as good as Invision in my opinion).

Despite there being millions of posts, it's not that difficult to migrate to other software, so I think it'll be (fairly) smooth though the whole "no spaces in usernames" thing may be problematic. I can't figure out why this is happening, or pin point software that forces this (I think Discourse does but I really can't see DS using it, as good as it is).

Interesting times anyway.

If they are ditching vBulletin 3, then xenforo is the way to go.

vBulletin 4 and especially vBulletin 5 are utterly terrible.

Xenforo is the new forum software developed by the team who coded vBulletin 3 and then left the company.

Prefer Invision to Xenforo but anything it better than this.

I've personally never got on with invision software from a dev perspective, but it's certainly not worse than vB5. I think keeping what we have here now would be preferable to the horrible mess that is vB5.

Invision 4 is very good in my experience.

I wonder if it'll be like when some TV shows get a revamp... only to be killed off one series later.

I'm still tempted to offer the one on my site if DS went down. Not sure how much it'd cost to run, though

There's no such thing as 'bad language' - it's "strong language"

Indeed That one got a lot of use.

Erm... they are. Well, okay. A sub-domain. Why would they be completely separated?

You got that stats to back up that apparent statement of fact? No. Thought not. I use it a few times every day.

I on the other hand hope not. We're not 4 year olds and catering for such silliness is a waste of time, bandwidth and server capacity.

But do we want to see posts littered with swearing ?

Well no, i mean, i guess it comes down to context really.
But having a filter in place doesn't take context into account and its a very nanny thing to have.
We adults, we can use our brains and maturity to know when to say something and when not. And if not, thats when the jail and a ban comes into play.
You're allowed to swear on here, providing it is within the context of what you'e saying and not be verbally abusive, and im glad of that, but there are far far more important things to code than a silly filter because someone is going on a Mary Whitehouse 'im offended' routine over what is a word.

Was that 2009? Sounds like 2008 as Gran Turino was in cinemas. If it is god! Looks like 2001 graphics.

Agreed, it'll make DS seem amateurish

That is splitting hairs - do we want to lower the tone of Digital spy, to an after watershed TV Drama?
There is no need for Bad, foul or even strong language on any forum, where all ages, genders or religions of the users are free to use the forum.
It would not be difficult to include a filter & I hope DS do so.

I've been coming to the forum here for a few years now.

For many years, more than ten, I was a member of the Guardian's talkboards until one Friday evening at 5pm they just closed them down without warning. Luckily lots of the members had become friends and were able to contact each other to regroup. That merry band eventually resurfaced on an almost perfect replica of the boards at http://www.notthetalk.com and, shortly after, a more modern looking version of the same at http://www.justthetalk.com

Both sites have exactly the same content and users but some prefer the traditional "guardian style" of notthetalk.

The community is pretty strong and the boards are very active and simple to use. I'd love more people to come join us as I'm sure they all would.

Easy: just get rid of all the sections in the top box of the forum except for Broadcasting, TV Shows: UK and TV Shows: US.

I think the problem Digital spy is having lately is most of its users are now over 30 and many way older. So they're giving the whole site a make over to make it more colourful, interactive, video clips in posts and more about social media. Blurring the lines between this and the youngsters fav social media platforms.

So the older folk will probably find it too hectic on their older eyes. But its the only way the site will survive as this ancient forum software is from the olden days and looks really dated now, so puts a lot of younger people off.

Poor me!

As others have said, I'm guessing that the forum will be linked more closely to DS articles. You've got to get the community reading and responding to the articles that journos are bieng paid to write!

But people did use to respond to articles but DS removed that facility and made them read only.
