Don't know if anybodys seen this in this part of DS forum's but DS is being downsized and speculation that the forums will be axed or cut back as their not economically beneficial etc What will us soapsters do?

Forum's are closing left right and centre because their not as popular so it's not unreasonable speculation imo and flagging it up now might open lines of communication between users and Digital spy mods /tptb that may give us a chance to save the forum if it is at risk.
Just a possibility that isn't wild.

That's what î thought. Sadly it will be staff that go first in a downsize.

I imagine the forum has a small running cost in comparison and drives traffic to the site

The soap forums are the best bits about watching soaps at the moment, I would be so disappointed if they got rid of the forums.

It is easy to set up a free site. If they do close the boards here just get someone to set up a new site for soaps etc.

You wouldn't need to have a front page just forums

There are plenty of other dead soap forums out there that could be hijacked

I'm hearing that the cuts @HearstUK are in the region of 60-plus jobs at risk, with hope of many redeployed. Not confirmed

The dude who has his tweet used in the original thread has posted the above

If that happens, I'm screwed. Being in Italy, this forum is the only way I have to keep up with the soap storylines I'm interested in, and the soaps in general. Without it I would be lost (I hate twitter, and FB is a lot less useful). I hope they don't shut it down!

People are just getting a bit overexcited and overthinking. Plus I don't think the speculation is nice given if this does happen and as I posted above it looks like folk have been told today/the last few days that jobs are at risk

Uncertainty just before Xmas isn't nice whatever industry you work in

Thats true but the posters here have gotten to know each other over the years.

So would be nice if they all went together. And the site was moderated by some of the users here.

Thanks Lea.

No word on which site functions /services will be cut or reduced? According to the general discussion forum a statistics website shows a dramatic drop in use of this site in just one year.

Perhaps unpopular forums like say food and drink and Politics will be axed? Soap seems most popular forum to my eye.

Cutting sections would make no difference, the running costs for the forum will be very small in comparison to paying the wages of full time journalists.

When I read my thoughts were less staff but with more work to do that's the normal. They might axe sections of content but that will depend on content/traffic etc. As I said if the forum is driving traffic to the site then it would be stupid to axe it

I will be upset if this forum closes. It feels like a family here and I've got to know people through my love of soaps

According to the general discussion forum a statistics website shows a dramatic drop in use of this site in just one year.
One year...so that would be around the time of the site revamp last year, when the clickbaity, Buzzfeedy OMG! articles and gifs started sneaking in. Surprise surprise.

I'd be surprised if the forums are touched, they're still immensely popular.

Hi

There are no current plans to remove the forums so don't worry about not being able to discuss soaps on DS. As this isn't soap related and with the General Discussion forum having a thread pertaining to this subject we will close this to avoid speculation.
