What did Ken mean to Tracy when he said Daniel was proper family? Was it meant to imply Tracy wasn't due to being a step daughter?

I have a tendency to switch off mentally when Tracy's on but hadn't she just said something to Daniel like "you can run along now cos his proper family's here!!"

Ken's reply was, "He is proper family!" rather than "He is proper family!" I think!!

Why did she have to be so horrible to him from the off? She insults everybody for no good reason, its very boring now.

He wasn't saying that Tracy wasn't proper family, just that Daniel is too after she had implied he wasn't.

Daniel is Ken's son, Peter is his son and Adam is his grandson, all members of his family; but Tracy is not biologically related to Ken, although he has always supported her and tolerated her continual disgraceful behaviour. Perhaps this stroke has opened his eyes to what a nasty person Tracy is and she will not get his support in future.

But you're right, Tracy has been boring (along with badly-acted) ever since.

Ken did adopt Tracy when she was a chikd. Legally she is as much his child as Peter and Daniel and given she was 4 when he married Deardre for the first time and mid teens when they divorced, he actually did more day to day raising of her than he did the teins or Daniel.

I don't think he is under any illusions as to her true character and personality but still considers her his child (rightly in my view, adoption makes all the difference) so doesn't abandon her.

Ken adopted Tracy in 1986, so she's as much a daughter and sibling to them if she was biologically Ken's. I think Ken was saying it too all of them because none of them knew who Daniel was and Tracy only knew of him as a baby.
