Larries and other tinhats
The long running Larrie thread has been mysteriously closed, so I've started another one for us to discuss any tinhatting activity or events.
The Larries aren't coping with the re-emergence of the man they call 'Party Louis'. They genuinely believe that Louis is secretly a reclusive type who likes art, hates football, doesn't smoke, and only socialises with his boyfriend Harry Styles and other famous celebs. Happily, Louis continues to defy them and has been photographed leaving nightclubs with his sister or Danielle quite a few times recently. The Larries think all these outings are set up by Simon Cowell and Louis would much rather be at home drinking hot chocolate. I wonder why the other thread was closed? Can anyone shed light? |

These insane fandoms build up a character for a celeb they 'adore', they don't really care about what he's really like IRL. They build up an imaginary life for him, and any missteps he takes, away from this built up persona, is the 'management' forcing him to. Funnily, the celebs many times end up needing these insane fandoms, because they're their most loyal fans, who'll follow them to any project they do.

No idea what tinhats are but Larries are some of the most amusing people around. They must be genuinely mentally ill.

Yes, very true. It's like the Twilight shippers believing Kristen Stewart is actually a bible-thumping traditional wifey type who loves to stay home and bake bread (while breastfeeding her invisible babies), rather than being a bi/gay pothead punk kid.
The recent announcement that she's pregnant again threw them for a while but now they've regrouped to claim this pregnancy is fake too and all part of her evil manipulation of "poor Benedict." So now the guy will apparently have two dolls for babies. Oh and they've even got the fact that the first child is now a toddler covered. When they need a "walking child" they just borrow one from a friend and pretend it's theirs for the photographers. Because you see all the Paparazzi pics of them with the kid are set up by the evil wife. What really stuns and fascinates me me is these "fans" are middle aged women not kids in their early teens like the Larries and Twilight groups. How do people get like that?. I never knew such people existed before I found out about this lot because I'm a Sherlock fan and had a look on some online discussions about it which went off topic to discuss this mad faction. |

In response to queries upthread: tinhats are hardcore conspiracy theorists in fandoms. Usually they believe a couple in a band or TV/film franchise are secretly together but can't tell the public for various reasons. These tinhats also exhibit symptoms of erotomania, believing that their idols are communicating with them via secret signs, such as clothing choices.
Larries believe that Larry (a splice of Harry and Louis) in One Direction have been together in a monogamous relationship since 2010. According to Larries, the two boys are obsessed with each other's eye colour and signal their mutual devotion by including the colours green and blue in their Instagram pics, or by wearing green and blue clothes. Louis & Harry live in LA, so green hills and blue sky feature in a lot of Louis' pics lol. They also believe he's telegraphing his hatred of his 'beard' and his fake baby through posting 'warning selfies.' There are thousands of Larries, all bonkers when it comes to this one topic. Some say they're lawyers and journalists. Many pretend to have insider knowledge. |

I would be interested to know what the Cumberbitches think Benedict actually gets from this fake relationship! When you look at the Larries, the twilight lot and even the laughable Jamie Dornan/ 50 Shades shippers, they believe they are actually in relationships with other people, so there is some kind of spurious reason behind their claims at least.
The Cumberbitches just seem to want to believe Ben is just asexual, and so weak willed that he has allowed himself to be blackmailed into this bizarre life, for no apparent reason. In all of these cases, it doesn't really show their heroes off in a good light, if true. It would show that they are willing to be manipulated to such an extent as to lead an entirely fake life, or that they have done something so appalling that it is blackmailable for decades. I feel sorry for the partners of these people. Showbiz is such an insecure environment anyway, that it must put enormous pressure on a relationship if you and your children are being harrassed and abused because some nutters believe you are blackmailing your partner into being with you! |

But what I'd like to know is do they really think all this? Like REALLY? Surely most of it is just egging each other on and they don't believe it's true. A secret relationship is one thing but to accuse someone of having a fake baby? (From what I have gathered from here they actually think the baby is fake (i.e. not living) and not just the paternity that is fake??) Surely they are just doing some of it for a laugh? Nobody can possibly believe this? People who claim that celebrities are talking to them and leaving secret messages normally get help, not set up communities to talk to other like minded weirdos

in this topsy turvey world, sometimes there are some crazy stories out there.
But after the whole Saville thing came out, and in a world where we know that media spin exists and is exploited by publicists, it is difficult at times to know what is true and what isn't! I think its a useful, if salutary, lesson in realising what people are willing to believe! Larry might be a reaction to the sheer amount of publicity generated for an artificially created band, fans trying to make some kind of sense out of the sheer volume of .....spin. After seeing all the Taylor Swift and Hiddleston stuff, what on earth was going on between Taylor and Harry? So maybe in a response to the obvious nonsense some created an even more implausible story? And ran with it? |

I'm not saying I do believe that his marriage is fake at all, or that everything tinhatters larries etc is remotely sensible, but... in some ways Benedict hasn't helped himself, by the way he has behaved. Isnt some of the issue that nowadays a lot of celebrities seem to want to have their cake and eat it? Benedict wants to be one of the most well known actors in the world, and has a huge body of current film and TV work. So he is constantly out there publicising and talking about his work. But he also wants a private family life, and for that life to be protected and not part of his public work life. But that is a massive disconnect. When did it become normal to keep your public and private life so separate? By keeping it so separate it does almost look as if he has something to hide....If it was all above board and 'normal' why not be proud of your wife and family and show them off at every available opportunity? We live in a world where we assume we are more open and honest than previous generations, but if you scratch the surface, Hollywood now is almost as deceitful and fake, as it was in the early 20th century, with all the beards and seemingly fake dating stories! |

When you hire a plumber, you don't wonder about his life out of work. Why would actors be any different, why should they reveal to total strangers anything about their life outside of work? |

I know a lot of actors, mainly theatre actors who are not well known outside theatrical circles, and nearly all of them think it's important to keep their private lives and careers separately and out of the public eye. That goes double if they do get a bit of fame, because the intrusion into your privacy is so immense with even a little celebrity. I would never, ever talk about my private life in public. I'm not in the public eye but just from working in the industry in a job where I occasionally give interviews, I am super careful about what I put on social media. Quote:

Claim the fact they do it all the time is proof it signifies something important. 3. What's more important than secret love conspiracy? 4. Ergo, whenever they do that thing they do all the time, it's proof and shoutout of secret love conspiracy. |

Oh dear I think we have a tin hatter in the house. I recognise the symptoms. Actors/singers bring these ridiculous theories on themselves because they won't share their private life with the public. Why the heck should they? Like the previous poster said acting is their job. You don't accuse your dentist of having a fake marriage and kids because he doesn't share his private life with the media. Why should actors/singers be different? The service the fans are paying for is to watch their movies or their concerts etc, not to share their private lives.

The other thread is closed? Obviously a sign that #LarryIsReal.
I'm conflicted about the conspiracy theorists because some of them are mentally unhealthy and it seems mean to point and laugh. On the other hand, reading their bizarre claims that, supposedly, prove the various theories, makes for some entertaining reading. |

To me it sounds like Benedict has a very smart approach. He wants to be known for his work, wants to promote that, not his private life. I don't see any disconnect. He's not hiding his wife away, she's out there supporting him on red carpets etc.
When you hire a plumber, you don't wonder about his life out of work. Why would actors be any different, why should they reveal to total strangers anything about their life outside of work? I do agree that celebs sometimes don't help themselves with the ridiculous showmances like Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston but if someone doesn't do that, they should be completely entitled to their private life. Actually, I wouldn't even blame the actors for that. Some of them have the Red Carpet cuddling up for example, in their contracts, to create film buzz. The mega stars can refuse, but if Disney are paying you to pretend you are in love with your co-star for 10 minutes during a press tour, I'd be willing to bet you'd agree, if the alternative is the next starlet in the queue getting the part. |

[[quote]]If it was all above board and 'normal' why not be proud of your wife and family and show them off at every available opportunity? [[quote]]
I never put my children on social media. Im not remotely famous, but children need to be protected by their parents. My family and close friends are the only ones with access to my children. if I had loonies stalking me and my family, my child would be completely hidden, under threat of court action until they were 18. I have more respect for celebs who keep their lives private than those who have it all on show. In my opinion, the ones with nothing to sell but themselves show their family off. The ones who have a talent don't need to, and they should be allowed to keep it private. you don't need to know what Benedict Cumberbatch's child looks like! |
