^ Only to you and others like you who think they're owed a weekly guided tour of every aspect of a celeb's life.
And the fact you use the terms 'above board' and 'normal' tell me you're not coming from either an above board or remotely normal place. If people want a private life, I have no problem with that. But I am also curious about how and why these kinds of rumours happen and circulate, and why some gain traction and others don't. I did put normal in inverted commas.....to suggest a difference between what is considered normal by the vast majority, and what is actually normal! And this Kaylor thing is fascinating, in as much as I have no interest or knowledge of either Taylor Swift, K Kloss, or even Tom Hiddleston, the majority of information I have read about them is from here on the showbiz thread, because I felt that Hiddleswift was so bizarre and fake, I had no idea that K Kloss had a boyfriend, that info wasn't on the hiddleswift thread. |

What on earth went on for instance with Michael Jackson, I am sort of glad he managed to adopt his 3 children, assuming he was a tragic rather than dangerous figure, but how did he think he could get away with saying 3 white children were anything but adopted by him?
With regard to Michael Jackson, his three children could easily be the offspring of one black and one white parent. The youngest one does look like Michael Jacson too. So it's supposition to say they're adopted and innacurate to say that they're too white to be his natural children. Maybe they're adopted, maybe they're the result of surrogates being artificially inseminated with MJ's sperm or maybe he actually had sex with their Mothers. I guess we will never know. |

I agree.
It should also be pointed out that once upon a time, in the golden age of cinema, the studios protected their stars (and of course, their own interests) and it's only recently that the private lives of silver screen actors and actresses have been made public. Before the Internet celebrities could choose to stay away from the limelight and protect their privacy. Knowing every move they make and having mentally challenged fans egging each other on is largely a product of social media. Quote:
I mean, if I want to be nice about it all, I guess i'm not against non-invasive "shipping" and I think that sometimes there isn't smoke without fire but when these people go into delusional land, harass and start making up wacko theories when it's clear that their ship either A) Didn't ever exist or B) Doesn't exist anymore, is when it goes way too far.
The studios and agents also have a part to play in this. Instead of protecting their 'talent' like they used to, not it seems that all publicity is good publicity. They want their stars to ham it up in public, gazing doe eyed on the red carpet, touching each other up and have showmances with their on screen co stars because its all good publicity. But if those stars are then hounded on social media and their private lives are picked over by a load of people, suddenly it's the fans' fault for reading too much into it. |

Michael Jackson was an eccentric figure and he led a strange life. He's not really comparable with the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and others mentioned here who have had their fairly mundane lives turned into some sort of bizarre fantasy novel by fandom weirdos.

I would say the Jackson kids look like 1/4 Black, 3/4 white kids. Jackson was fully black. I agree. He was eccentric and attracted curiosity through his behaviour.

Maybe in this increasingly difficult world it is important to look at things with a pretty big dose of scepticism! In the news at the moment there are plenty of conspiracies out there, that maybe we do need to be aware of These celebrity ones are pretty unimportant in many respects, except they show how easy it is to deceive and spin information!Quote:
Oh dear I think we have a tin hatter in the house. I recognise the symptoms. Actors/singers bring these ridiculous theories on themselves because they won't share their private life with the public. Why the heck should they? Like the previous poster said acting is their job. You don't accuse your dentist of having a fake marriage and kids because he doesn't share his private life with the media. Why should actors/singers be different? The service the fans are paying for is to watch their movies or their concerts etc, not to share their private lives.
So what, if any, is the big deal with knowing about Benedict and his wife and family? I'm not asking for anything other than basic information? A lot of people get so excited when a baby is born, or when someone gets married, they want to share in the good news, and send congratulations and presents etc. I remember when my children were born, all kinds of friends and relatives I had never met, sent all kinds of presents and cards, which were gratefully received. Fans are surely exactly the same? And no an actor or entertainer, is not quite the same as anyone else. To make their job successful they need to do their job well, but they also need to have a name that is recognised and that will bring viewers into the theatre, or into the cinema, or to watch a TV show, so they do need the support of the public and their fans. And would it be really that much of a big deal to show your appreciation of the support by sharing aspects of your personal life? As the royal family do! Quote:

These celebrity ones are pretty unimportant in many respects, except they show how easy it is to deceive and spin information! When I go to the dentist, he is quite happy to chat to me openly about the amazing holidays he and his kids go on, I think at the last count it was at least one a month, with 3 or 4 abroad! Its a useful distraction for me from the root canal treatment! It might not be information shared with the media, but it has never seemed a big deal for him to share this kind of private information with me! I think this point is so important, a lot of stars are perfectly happy to play along with their agents and publicists when it suits them to do so, and then to get all upset when their privacy is invaded, and someone finds out something they shouldn't! And yes social media does make this much worse, cos pap photos or fan photos can spread so fast. This is so true for the whole larries thing, Hiddleswift or Justin Bieber, or so many of these tinhat theories. With respect, your dentist (presumably) is not an international celebrity, so there is a world of difference between him providing some anecdotes whilst you're drowsy on anaesthetic and Benedict Cumberbatch providing information on his personal life. I think the celebrities that hone their craft and have a natural talent have a perfect entitlement to as much privacy as they like. If they don't pimp out their life they deserve privacy. They are under no obligation to show pictures of their families, children and/or homes. There is a world of difference between this and idiots like Katie Price, Peter Andre and the cast of TOWIE who ring OK magazine every time they cut their toenails. The latter sort of celebrity is borne on publicity and attention seeking and they do not deserve - or indeed, seem to want - privacy. & sending a celebrity a gift for whatever reason is IMVHO extremely creepy and weird. |

Andre, Price, Katona, the Kardashian clan and various other z listers, all sell every belch and fart, because they have nothing else to sell, no discernible talent. That's their choice. Cumberbatch is NOT A royal and is under no obligation to provide his fans with intimate details and photos of his personal life. Nor is any other famous person. |

Since then, unsurprisingly, Louis hasn't shared much with the fandom. Liam seems likely to share even less. |

It's hardly surprising that Liam and Cheryl are keeping quiet about their (alleged) child.
On another forum I read about a few scary UK Larries planning to go to California to upend the pram and prove once and for all Freddie was a reborn doll. Imagine if they had!! That poor baby. |

Actors get a following because of the body of work they do - people go to see them because they enjoy the films they make ... that's the deal between actor and audience. The actor doesn't 'owe' his or her fans any more than a value for money performance.

And would it be really that much of a big deal to show your appreciation of the support by sharing aspects of your personal life? As the royal family do! Firstly the dentist. You know him as someone you meet regularly. You do not know Benedict Cumberbatch. When the dentist is talking to you about his private life he is talking to just you, not broadcasting his family info to the world via the media as you expect Cumberbarch to do. Secondly, people send presents and congratulations when people they know have a baby not when it happens to complete strangers. I'm not saying I wouldn't think it was a nice thing for the Cumberbatches that they had a new baby but I wouldn't expect them to share photos with me. Because I don't know them and they don't know me. Cumberbatch is perfectly amenable to fans and the media and does lots of interviews and attends events where his fans can meet him. But, probably in part because of the scary and insane behaviour of some of his fans, has decided he's going to keep his private life off limits as far as possible. As he is perfectly entitled to do. What he owes his fans is a good acting performance. He does not owe them access to his private life. And it's not like he ever paraded his private life through the media so he could now be accused of hypocrisy. He's never been one for the Hello style photo shot "in his charming home." He and his wife turn up to his film premieres and a very few other public events but mostly they live a very low key existence. As for the Royals well to be blunt the only reason they're there is for the public to look at them but they too are very protective of their private lives. To the extent that the media have to sign agreements in relation to what is permissible in terms of reporting and photography of specific of the royal family under the age of 18. |

And I also agree with Pru. I remember recently when Amy Schumer got upset about a 'fan' filming her without her consent and then said, "The fans own you" - that is just plain wrong. That attitude is very weird and I would never ask a celebrity for an autograph if I saw them in the street. I am not entitled to one just because I watched them in a movie. The Towie lot and Peter Andre et al film their whole lives for a buck, so they cannot complain when they are in the gossip rags. |

I have much more respect for celebrities who respect the privacy of their children than those who don't. The children, as the children of celebs will have pictures and information about them on the internet their whole life. If their parents are protecting them like that, that is them being good parents. They owe the fans nothing.

And I agree about the Royal Family. They are basically the nation's pets, ( stolen from AA Gill, but so accurate) We do own them. Actors and singers sell their films and songs. They talk about their films and songs etc. If we like them, we buy their songs and watch their films. I don't need pictures of their babies to like their films or songs more.

The thing is, all the ppl being discussed have given out the basic info requested by Augusta upthread.
BC hasnt kept his marriage or child a secret. Louis T shared more than he ever needed to, considering Freddie wasn't planned and many celebs hide oops babies from their fans forever. |

There are many celebs, who have shared thigs about their private life with the fans (pictures of wife&children on IG etc). Some fans have taken this and abused it, against the wife. For example Stephen Amell from Arrow, some fans ship him with his co-star, want him to divorce his wife and get with the co-star. They are in fact outraged on behalf of the co-star, that he hasn't already done it. They're angry every time he posts a picture with his wife. Some have photoshopped his wife out of the family puctures, replaced her with the co-star, and sent the picture to him and his wife. He's much less active with his fan interactions and sm these days, wonder why.
So it really doesn't matter, if the actors/celebs share stuff with fans or not. The nutter fandom acts the same regardless. Theyve ruined the nice twitter interaction for me at least, I used to love to live tweet shows I watch, but the hashtags are filled with this nutter rubbish. And I'm just a show watcher. Can't imagine how the actors feel. |

I think the tinhats tend to be interested in a few fandoms at the same time, like the crazy HKN. Many Larries are also Crickies and Kaylors...they are also obsessed with the book Captive Prince and ship the Captain America guys. All Larries believe Cheryl and Liam are in a PR relationship and are preparing to launch Babygate 2.0.

Most dentists, doctors, plumbers, accountants, etc. don't share so much with patients/clients. Nothing wrong with your dentist, some people are naturally super extroverted and chatty. But most of the people you meet in a professional context don't tell you all about their private lives, and I bet you don't demand that your GP or optician do likewise just because your dentist does? Or judge them for not doing it?
It's not a "big deal" for an actor to share personal info, if they want to, but it has to be their choice. Fans are not remotely the same as friends and relatives. Fans are total strangers. Besides we know a lot about Cumberbatch's wedding and child, and he talks about his family often (certainly loads more than my dentist). How much more do you want to know? That is a good point, sometimes studios, etc. do actively encourage 'shipping' and rumours. The guy who plays the lead on Outlander gave an interview where he stated his co-star insisted on setting the record straight that they were not dating (because she has a partner) and that he was disappointed because he wanted to create some mystery or or ambiguity over their offscreen relationship. They have hardcore shippers (led by the woman who created the HNK blog that started the whole Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are secretly married with kids conspiracy) who are not at Cumbercrazy level but not too far off. |

David Tennant is an example of an actor who kept his private life completely private (Cumberbatch looks like a Kardashian by comparison) and it certainly hasn't hurt him or his career. For years he literally never spoke about or even acknowledged the existence of his wife or children, walked out of interviews where she was mentioned, and made her enter and leave events separately and walk a few yards behind him so they couldn't be photographed together. Then after their second kid, he did start talking about them in interviews. And it worked. He is left alone by the press. Most of his fanbase are pretty vociferous in defending his privacy. When his son was born his fandom knew about it but the media never even knew his wife had been pregnant until he did an interview promoting a project and randomly mentioned, "I had a son six months ago." There are a handful of crazy fans on Twitter who hate his wife, but there are no 'fake baby' conspiracy theories and nothing like the full-on cult that exists around Cumberbatch, Stewart and Pattinson, the Outlander stars, the guys from Supernatural, the 50 Shades leads. Quote:
This is what I don't understand about the studio encouraged ships. We know when people are in relationships in real life. It really puts me off an actor f I know they are in a relationship but they go OTT with their co star. Even if their partner knows the score, it makes the actors look like they think nothing of humiliating their real partners in public. Surely cheater is not a good look?

As for Larries thinking there's ANOTHER fake baby in the 1D camp, do they have no insight into how disrespectful they're being? As well as being batshit crazy. |
