Call drops can happen for a fair few reasons. Over the next few months on EE I expect the network to change radically both as the infill sites are activated and 800 is finally utilised, ESN demands the highest levels of reliability so that should have a positive effect for the consumer. In general though the optimisation of VoLTE will go on, and they have a lot of performance indicators to help this. The dropped call rate will never be zero though IMO, there are simply too many factors. But I would suspect it'll become low enough that it is not an issue for most people ever.

I think there has been a recent problem, and my problems started when they did upgrade work locally (a lot of work on many sites) which has filled in almost all the holes (and that's not with 800) so perhaps there's an issue with the new and old sites?

Older sites have probably had optimisation done for the best part of a year now, both automatically through some kind of SON and manual adjustments. New ones probably not fully optimised yet. Still a weird situation.

Just got off the phone with EE's executive office; very nice lady on the phone - however she was none the wiser in terms of 800MHZ. She acknowledged that communication was lacking and apologised profusely for this; however said she couldn't get any further update at all on this and information is only released to them the same time as the public (by the sounds of it even the official executive complaints team do not get prior notice!)

EE's hush hush nature is just terrible in general; I can understand being competitive - however to launch a press release and not to even inform your own staff on the progress and what to advise customers is just embarrassing...

iOS 10.2 and carrier file 27.1 has been released tonight. Does anyone know if either one of these updates affect the ability to access 4G800?

The carrier update itself isn't what allows you to access 800.
Anyone with an iPhone 6 or above could access it now if EE provisioned it.
The main thing the update appears to do is to turn on VoLTE by toggling Voice & Data to on. Most users up to now will have been using 2G/3G for calls. Only those who have turned on Voice & Data would have been using VoLTE.
Once this update gets installed those handsets then start making calls over 4G1800/2600 when available. EE need to provision user accounts for 800 access, then we'll be able to use it.

Makes sense to force it on, as I am sure the majority of iOS users never enabled it.

I know EE has limited control as to when the update will go out, but now it has I do hope it has ironed out any problems with VoLTE that we've experienced in the last month or so.

I can't say I've had any problems since the start of last week, so fingers crossed we might see EE finally able to flick the switch and enable 800 for the world!

Hope VoLTE/IMS can cope. There's one hell of a lot of handsets about to jump on it now.
Many more people will be able to take advantage of WC>VoLTE>WC as well now.
Lighten the call load on 2G/3G too. Might push us closer to more 1800 coming over to 4G.

Yes may be EE were waiting for the IOS10.2 and carrier update 27.1 now. Might see 4G800 this week. Just want to see what 4G800 can do on full power. That is why I moved to EE hoping to have coverage where VO2 don not have

Perhaps there's something in that that explains EE's silence. If any part of this delay hinged on either of the updates from Apple, EE would be well and truly gagged. If Apple's updates were in any part delayed, then the knock-on affect would be EE couldn't implement their announcement. This is just my thoughts and not based on any knowledge or experience in this field.

It's certainly true that EE would not be allowed to say anything about there being a problem with iOS.

That's been true since the first iPhone was released.

Fingers crossed Someone on EE community said(he has been told by EE team) that there will be update from EE early this week on 4G800

Once they have all info who is and who isnt able to access VoLTE then they can provision accounts pay monthly and leave out PAYG customers. I think this is the case

I did the update on the wife's iPhone 6s and the did the carrier update. After doing this, the phone was still on data only. Maybe it needed a reboot for the settings to take effect.

This is odd. I left mine 4G OFF only before installing the update and it automaticaly changed to 4G voice and data after carrier update. If 4G800 comes soon after the update means EE were waiting for IOS10.2

I don't think that's the case. Even now a lot of people won't be using VoLTE. More likely there was an issue now fixed with the new settings.

Thus those who has it enabled before could have had problems.

Just updated mine and it's defaulted to Cellnet per minute billing. I hate it when that happens.

Very interesting on the iOS update. That seems like an indication to me. If they've had to wait for Apple to do their various inspections etc a little longer than expected, that'd explain a lot. Apple has a lot of influence over what the networks do.

May be you are right Jon(hopefuly) as you are into the mobile networks. I do not understand as much but I just hope like all the others 4G800 will go live soon

I just think why only Apple. A lot of Android handsets do not access 4G800. It is not just Apple. So why would EE wait for Apple to release an update
