EE 800 Mhz 4G to go live next week

I was told launched sites are at full power. But there are many more sites than the 700 that went live.

I don't know why they're not live too, but that's the situation we're in. Maybe another batch will go live in the new year, or they're planning to stagger the switch on to fit around other network upgrade work.

I am hoping to visit EE's test centre in the new year, to see the 1GB/s trial they're doing, and also go to their Faraday cages (as I did with Vodafone in 2015) to have a look around. Maybe I'll find out more, but I have to assume that there's a well thought out plan.

We must remember that there are costs and budgets, and also limited numbers of engineering staff. It may sound sensible to just go live with every site the second it's upgraded, but clearly there's a level of testing and integration and only so many hours in the day. They're still upgrading Orange sites to 4G and also optimising and upgrading existing sites to cope with congestion.

All of this is ongoing and happening at the same time. Then there are VoLTE issues that many are suffering, which also needs to be looked at.

As far as I can tell, nobody is worse off than they were this time last week. SOME are better off. Many WILL be better off, but have to wait a bit.

It's Christmas in a week, so I think we shouldn't expect much to happen for the next few weeks. What I would like now is for the coverage checker to be improved to show 800 (or not, as the case may be). I think they're having problems with that too, but there's a big relaunch of the whole website in the pipeline so maybe it will come with that.

The mast broadcasts VO2 4G800 and well covering that area around Woodcote. Three has 4G800 from that mast and very well covered. Just EE need to switch it too

Latched onto L800 coming out of Whitwell, Rutland so some activity around here.

Using the map API and a list of ~33,000 postcodes I have has resulted in this very approximate 'coverage' map:

http://gdurl.com/D1F3

Only ~7000 postcodes returned a non-zero speed value for 4G 800. I have not plotted any zero values.

Pale shades are low speed and darker shades are higher speed, based on the values 1-5 returned.

So basically nothing south of London. There's your northern powerhouse!

I did. Asked what it would take, they said how much do you have?
Emptied my pockets and £38.62 did the trick!
It's the North Huish MIP I think.
Gives me signal strength 1 here so not enough.

Wow thanks!

It seems to me that the Watford Gap mentioned by Jon somehow still seems to exist. Or maybe the coverage checker has not been updated for the South?

Edit: The EE press release specifically states Berkshire and Somerset getting 800Mhz coverage, so clearly the coverage checker has not been updated properly.

I'm hoping the figures are actually wrong in the API as 2G is still reaching further than 4G800 at my workplace and the API says the location is 2 for 2G and also 2 for 4G800

I've had 800 in Maidstone (Kent) and the coverage checker API Used to return 4G800: 5 (full signal strength) - it doesn't anymore.

These conversations have made me think about the distance signals are able to travel. I've Googled it but didn't get the answer.

How far does the average 800, 1800, 2100 & 2600 signals usually travel?

Thanks for any replies and sorry if this has been posted previously.

As far as I remember someone had mentioned that 4G800 full power can travel up to 20 miles

So why the different strength in coloured dots?

Signal level doesn't stay the same over the distance from the mast. Terrain, direction, structures, trees etc will all have an impact.

If you have time, don't suppose you could do a zoomed in South West could you?
Want to check if that single mast in Devon is the one I think it is. : )
Thanks

Not at my PC now but when I looked earlier the hot spot was at/around South Brent, if that's any use?

Ok thanks. Not really. There are two there it could be. One at Wrangaton on the A38 very near South Brent but there's a brand new MIP mast in North Huish which I think is the one. Just need a slightly better zoom.
No worries. Only if you have time.
