well I hope this doesn't anger the any forum ghosts of Christmas past, but there doesn't seem to be any network Christmas upgrade freeze here today as checked my other half's iPhone 6s tonight in the usual 4g/3g blackspot (indoors anywhere) an expected to see the standard GPRS.. but no 2 blobs of 4g (-105db) checked on field test mode and indeed it was band 20, flawless reception throughout the house.
as its not my phone I could tell quite which mast it was but as the local 2g mast still looks a mouldy as ever I'm guessing it a high up mast at loggerheads about 3-4 miles away as three have 800mhz on that mast already and it gives around the same signal strength.. speedtest was around 11mbps.. not bad! .

The roll out is largely software based in the many new areas ready to go 'Live", so it will continue to do so.. the only freezes are new product & physical upgrades by the engineers and contractors

Yes a lot of sites have already been equipped with the 4G800 but waiting to be switched remoteley. I think EE are just doing it slowly and carefully. The EE team confirmed a lot of sites here around Reading having 4G800 but not live yet so may be they are doing it like the VoLTE roll out

Yes, your right about that one at Aldi, had a look today and it's gone. The Hallcroft one recently but it had new antennas last year and i'm pretty sure it's 4G. I remember it used to be 0.5mbps on 3G before the last upgrade.
My local mast was a 2G 33 code before being converted for MNBL and it took EE nearly a year to add it to the coverage map. EE could do with a mast near Ordsall/Retford Oaks School roundabout as the signal isnt very good around there, even on 2G. They seem to be very slow to update the coverage maps. I guess it's better to be showing worse coverage on the maps than them update them before the upgrades have happened and therefore people think the service is better than it is. I agree, the signal is very weak up there. My sister can't get a signal downstairs in the sixth form (not as if she actually uses her phone much, unlike most her age) but she says some can so I can only assume they're on O2 or Vodafone. I also think they need another mast up near my end of Ordsall. The signal isn't too bad on my estate but up the road where my Grandparents live (Gleneagles, Sunningdale, Wentworth, Ainsdale Green area), the signal is very weak even on 2G. I don't think any network is great but my Grandparents have basic phones on Vodafone and they seem to work alright. The other three networks are very weak there. |

800mhz Peterborough
Has anyone noticed band 20 in the Peterborough area? Or could check please. I have noticed no increase in signal indoors but find it odd that I haven't with all the places I go to around Peterborough. I have a iPhone 7 so can't go into field test mode to confirm this. Thanks.

Thetford, Norfolk has 800MHz coverage from EE now:
5MHz - Band 20: https://s29.postimg.org/b9audfdtz/5_MHz_of_Band_20.png 20MHz - Band 20 (I think my phone got confused) https://s29.postimg.org/tdduy2bif/20_MHz_of_Band_20.png |

Not all masts have B3 4G at the moment (I suspect they will have soon), but most have B1 3G, which was good when I last used it. Having said that, last time I went up that way there was a mast that appeared to be B3 2G/4G only. It really needa B1 3G adding, as well as B20 4G, as coverage (in general) in Thetford and the surrounding area is poor for data on EE. Next time I go up there I'll take a Giffgaff SIM with me so I can compare EE to O2 coverage - I suspect that O2 will be better due to B8 3G and B20 4G deployment. |

Something needs to happen at serpentine green shopping centre. Always has been dire here on EE, luckily it's covered with BT Wifi for wifi calling. |

That would have been 20MHz Band 3, especially since the signal strength of B3 was much weaker than B20.

I believe there is band 20 from the cell site near Van Hague. Should help with coverage in nearby Eye and Eye Green when on full power.

Where abouts is that site?? I always get a strong 4g signal when shopping there, but never managed to see where the mast is. Eye could really do with b20 ee signal really bad there.
The only mast that is anywhere near is an ex-O2 site right next to the village, which Vodafone have since started broadcasting on, thanks to CTIL. EE and Three do not have a mast nearby. Three has turned on B20 4G from their closest site, which helps, but EE so far do not have anything (other than weak 2G, very weak 3G and very weak 4G). They need to either put in a planning app for a new mast there, or put B20 on at full power. However, with B20 only having 5MHz bandwidth, EE (and Three) will be swamped easily. There needs to be a new mast there to have a chance at competing with CTIL in Eye/Eye Green. |

2G, 3G & 4G is now fully active on all Thetford masts and as such has always been the best performing network in the town. O2 and Vodafone have only recently activated just 1 mast so EE is definitely solid performance there.
What about the outskirts of Thetford, notably A11/A134/A1066? Last time I was in that area EE was very intermittent. |

The cell site is on the tall building near the A47/A15/A1139 interchange. The coverage api gives band 20 results from this site.

I know because I've recently moved out of Thetford. The A134 Legacy Orange EDGE mast between Barnham and Ingham is now fully 4G'ed but no 3G ! so another weird 2G/4G mast so no boost for 3 customers. Most masts along A11 stretch also 4G'ed with one still using orange antennas with Orange network code for 2G. A1066 route I'm not sure of as not been that way for a while.
Unless they plan on adding 3G at a later date. When I was on the A1066 last time, 3G coverage was very poor and there was a lot of Orange 2G masts in that area. Not been that way for a couple of years so hoping that they have added 3G and 4G to those masts!I don't know why EE are going for a 2G/4G approach. Maybe it is to do with planning applications (as 3G needs a separate cabinet), or maybe it is to try and hinder Three by not MBNL'ing the mast? Though having said that, if the lawsuit that Three filed in Summer 2016 is found in Three's favour then EE may be forced to MBNL/3G all of their masts. The orange network code for 2G would be for fallback for Three customers, so assuming this is temporary until Three get 3G/4G. I believe that EE want to completely abolish the Orange code and have all of the masts under the same network code, as it'd be better for customers (most EE SIMs tend to ignore Orange masts unless there is nothing else to use). Yes o2 and voda seems to have alot better coverage indoor and out for 4g in Peterborough area. They have even just enabled 4g in my village of thorney and installing a new mast in the centre village from what I can see from planning permissions. If ee don't up there game I may switch.
EE/3 do have 3G (and maybe 4G, but can't be certain) from two masts on either edge of Thorney, at each end of the dual carriageway (Thorney Bypass) road. Coverage should be ok (especially when the Orange EDGE mast is 3G/4G'ed). |

I thought so - that is the closest mast to that location that would possibly cover Eye/Eye Green. That really needs to have B20, though in an ideal world EE need to install a mast closer (there are plenty of fields close to Eye Green!).
Hmmm, EE sure do like their 2G/4G masts don't they? Unless they plan on adding 3G at a later date. Strangely as well recently another application by o2 has been summited to install panels on the orange/2g site which I didn't think was possible for o2 to have panels on a ee site. So a lot of progress is going on in Thorney finally lol. Does anyone know generally how long it takes for the upgrade to take place one planning permission have been approved?? |

EE have made good progress in integrating the Orange sites in the Stamford/Bourne area. Makes continuous coverage better with everything on the 234 30 code.
Not sure why they've turned off 3G on the pylon site near Bainton as Barnack now gets zilch 3G coverage. 2G is ok though. Hope it's temporary, the Tallington mast has gained 4G in the past few weeks so maybe it's associated with this. |

![]() Great Yarmouth is another classic example, there is a couple of Orange masts broadcasting where EE 4G has more than ample coverage, just left switched on like so. 3 customers can still to this day latch onto Orange code for 2G voice fall-back if they force roam despite 3G being present. Brandon, Suffolk high street Orange 2G microcell still in full bloom. Long live the Orange masts lol {not}
