Similar to when VoLTE launched. Here one minute gone the next over a considerable period of time.

Has anyone seen a dramatically increased coverage footprint in their area as a result of 800? It sounds like it's been set to mirror the footprint of the associated 1800 masts, with the main benefit therefore that it gets through walls?

Hard to say for sure, but I think the band 20 has improved here and is now full power. Now in the house (if I switch the signal box off) I usually have 4G or 3G. (2G is nowhere to be seen, and is the one thing that won't be missed as 2016 makes it disappear)
LTE Discovery is showing LTE20 at around -101-109dBm on its own, but sometimes goes to about -117dBm or so in conjunction with "LTE_CA" at -51dBm. I don't really know how to interpret that (-51 is strong!), but guess that's the carrier aggregation that was being talked about. Currently it just fell back to H/H+ at -111dBm, it just really flicks between the two. Have put Vodafone chip in and am seeing about the same - band 20 4G, -108 to -115dBm sat in the same place, but without the LTE_CA. It drops to H+ -99 to -105dBm sometimes. Guessing this is 3G-900 with it being stronger than EE's 3G, don't know how to check that but it's a brand new (well, 1 year old) 3G/4G CTIL upgrade, so I'd say so. Three is seeing the usual H/H+ only, at -109dBm. I think there's 4G-800 here, but presumably being the 3T and unsupported for VoLTE it won't let it on. Interesting results really. Purely from a hometown perspective Vodafone wins with having 3G-900 as well, but go out of town and you often find yourself with that archaic 2G stuff. It'll be the one to watch over the next year or two if they decide to upgrade the countryside stuff. EE's 4G-800 finally looking good here though - I consider "on par with Vodafone" to suggest that it's working at full power. ( Edit: I pressed submit and picked up my phone and it's on EDGE, on EE. Hahahaha ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) |

If I'm on a 4G/2G only site (upgraded so EDGE isn't actually terrible) then I have more voice call success than when it's 4G to 3G.

I'm finding Band 20 to be very intermittent. I've seen it on a few occasions since coming home for Christmas just over a week ago, but it seems to be there for a few hours and then vanish. It even did it on Christmas day but surely the engineers weren't working on it then?
As I look at my phone on Service Mode now, while upstairs in my room, I'm getting a couple of bars on Band 20. If I turn WiFi off, it goes into CA mode with Band 3. On more than one occasion a few days ago, I've gone downstairs and it's stayed on 4G. I've even got speed tests of more than 20 Mbps down there when it normally drops to 3G. I believe the Band 20 is coming from the mast on London Road in Retford. Three have 800 Mhz coming from the same mast and there's good indoor coverage on 4G according to their coverage checker once I've selected a compatible device, so the potential for some great 4G coverage is there. I'm guessing they're still sorting it out and it's only a matter of time. Another curiously (which is slightly off topic) is a strange network choice I've found tonight while using the Network Cell Info Lite app. If I'm on 4G in my room, my phone is connected to a mast in Elkesley between the A1 and Gamston airport (I live in an area between that mast and the London Road mast where the signal is a bit weaker). The mast gives about 1 bar of signal (1800 Mhz) and I found the map on the app to be pretty much spot on as far as the mast location is concerned. The same mast is identified when I'm on 3G and I get 2 to 3 bars of signal from it. However, on 2G (when I use an app to force 2G only), the phone prefers to select an old Orange mast near Grove which is 2G only and still broadcasts code 33. What is even more odd is that if I do a network scan and click on one of the EE's, if that particularly EE is code 30 (there's no way of knowing which is which), the phone will connect to a 4 bar EDGE signal before switching back to the ex Orange GPRS mast with 5 bars of signal. It doesn't even give the app time to determine the location of the mast broadcasting EDGE. I could understand it if the signal from the EDGE mast was weak, but it's only marginally weaker than the Orange mast. Is this a rare occurrence? Does anyone know why it is preferring the Orange mast. I can't wait for that mast to be upgraded as it seems to have pretty strong coverage- it's a large mast on a hill and would likely give me a decent 4G signal on 1800 Mhz. 800 Mhz on that would be fantastic! As an aside, the Network Cell Info Light app was unable to locate the mast when on Band 20. It looks as though it's because of Carrier Aggregation as even when I turn WiFI off, CA kicks in as soon as I go onto the app to look at the map. I believe the two bands are coming from different masts that that is understandably confusing for the app. Apologies for the long post- I do tend to waffle on a bit! |

I now gather that 3, VOD and O2 have 800 coverage at my house. I have not tested but I know EE has not, even thought the map says I have good indoor and outdoor coverage (utter lie). WTF is the hold up? Can't EE hire some people from VOD or something to replace the people who can't actually turn this thing on?
Morons. Typical EE and it's going to the dogs with BT at the helm. I want off this sinking ship. |

Yes Three and VO2 have all 4G800 in Reading and surrounding areas but not EE yet. 4G800 was around for a week then disappeared
So, fingers crossed, you'll get that as one of the next 3000 to go live quite soon. |

Fingers crossed that EE stop fiddling with their trouser equipment long enough to turn 800 on. Everyone else seems to have been able to. Another massive screw up by EE. Merry New year.

Clearly a test site then, not one of the 700 launched ones. Test sites have limited access to all, and after a certain period a block should be re-enabled (such as when the power goes up and it would cause issues for non-VoLTE equipped handsets) which it sounds like has happened for you in this case.
So, fingers crossed, you'll get that as one of the next 3000 to go live quite soon.

Morons. Typical EE and it's going to the dogs with BT at the helm. I want off this sinking ship. It all depends on where you live.. so you can't really right off a network due to local performance. That said EE don't even need 800.. they could achieve what they wish to do with 1800. As if you look on a city by city basis or even out of city areas. There are far less masts activated with 4G than you would think... |

I very, very much doubt that. My mast is EE 4G 1800 and there is about a sniff outside the house, even in the higher field it's very flaky and fluctuates between Edge and 3G. VO2 900 2G will ring inside my stone house from the same mast. They cannot possibly hope to cover South Devon with 1800 only, which is where I am.
The difference between 3's 1800 and 800MHz 4G is like night and day here. When they adjust the network priority so that the phone stops prefering a very very very weak 3G signal over a belting 4G signal, it'll be great. It'll be even better when BT Mobile start doing VoLTE... |

Generally I am very happy with EE since I joined them and WIFI-Call works very well with calling and texting. I know EE will soon improve indoor and rural coverage. Also have not tried their roaming but feedback is very good. So lets see what will happen in 2017. Jon happy Christmas btw

Roaming on EE and Vodafone is amazing. For one, you can tether. Second, you get full 4G speeds in most places.

That's a shame. When I was in Germany for IFA, having speeds of around 200/50 on Vodafone made downloading and uploading very pleasant indeed! And a reason why high speeds are actually important some of the time.

Anyway, back to 800 - from what I can see around me, most 800 sites are still extremely low power - even ones which appear on the map. So it seems like most sites aren't ready yet. I just hope EE know what they're doing... :/ |

Yeah, that's one thing I really like about EE and Vodafone, you can actually use data abroad properly. One thing I'm a bit worried about on EE though is France; I've heard in some places they've adopted Vodafone style steering, where they force you onto a certain network. If they force you onto Orange that's fine, but god help us if it's Bouygues!!

That's good, for me last time it defaulted to Bouygues on the way there (was able to switch to Orange though), but then on the way back Orange was default, so seemed a bit of a random default. As long as I'm able to use Orange I'm fine haha.
Explains which networks you can use abroad. Both listed so just choose Orange if it doesn't default to that. |

My vodafone seems to do the opposite, and prefer AT&T ! |
