.... If they force you onto Orange that's fine, but god help us if it's Bouygues!!...
Are Bouygues the French equivalent of o2; lots of 2G and congested to hell on 3G and 4G, where present?

Explains which networks you can use abroad. Both listed so just choose Orange if it doesn't default to that.
Ahh, thanks!

I haven't tested them much, only tested them from the Eurotunnel to the border with Belgium, but they weren't great on that journey, lots of 2G. Orange was strong, usable 3G all the way.

Bouygues Télécom are good but not to the same level as the Orange France network. This network is viewed as the premium network by the French and it's kind of no suprise because it's owned 80% by France Telecom and 20% by the state.

Had speeds of over 100Mbps roaming yesterday, so cannot confirm the 60Mbps cap.

Been seen by a fair few on here. Japaul, LegendaryAced and myself I think. Might depend on what kind of plan you're on.

I'm on a legacy 4GEE plan with no limit. I'll be in France next week so will try it then. As well as Vodafone and Three.

If you wanna test the French networks in the UK all you have to do is go to St. Margaret's Bay and voila! Welcome to France lol.

Distance might affect speed test results though!

Perhaps it depends on network/country? Hopefully we can find out more as more people test.

I wonder if it will be down to the plan. If you're on a 20/60Mbps capped plan, you might reasonably expect it to apply abroad too.

T-Mobile USA I once tested 121mbps, but this was a few months ago

Without knowing how EE routes traffic, I'm not sure how they could impose caps on a subscriber level. Perhaps they've imposed a blanket speed cap, or maybe even some networks have for roaming users?

How strict are EE's speed caps in the UK? I'm supposedly capped at 60 Mbps on my plan, yet I managed to get 84 Mbps down on a speed test last week.

Don't know as I haven't got a plan with a cap. I think the BT Mobile cap was pretty accurate and I've seen Wi-Fi services cap effectively too.

Speed tests can have spikes though. I remember when EE had a 100Mbps cap and I got 105 quite a lot, but on a short test. On a longer test, it was pretty much 99-100 spot on.

As a matter of interest, I've logged quite a bit of Band 20 in the more populated Barrow-in-Furness down the road, so it's certainly well deployed around here already!

something happened today. Was on a call and it dropped on one bar 4G1800 then changed to 3 bars band 20 but too late as call was dropped. I think there is a problem when changing bands 3 and 20 while on a phone call. That is why EE maight have a problem

I saw lots in the Workington area when back at the parents over Christmas too. It worked beautifully with no problems too!

Seems to be a problem going from 4G to 3G, so if there's a band to band problem on 4G then EE has, erm, a problem!

yes I am sure that was the issue as when on a phone call I always check how many bars and what band so today driving on A4074 going to Cane End and after the dropped call saw 3 bars band 20 and I was shocked. Why would the call drop if there was band 20 available. Why after the call was no problem finding band 20 Also forgot to mention that after driving a few miles my phone preffered EDGE than 4G800. It was clear that EE have not set up properly priority on bands if 2G was before 4G800. Looks like Three 4G800 used as last resort

Further to my comments about the town mast now being full power 800 (possibly even the old flagpole one now, I'm not sure) I'm now getting 4G-800 quite consistently in a pub where it usually fell back to 3G. It's actually not far away from either mast, but thick walls.

This wasn't the case when 800 first appeared, much as it wasn't the case at home. Definite improvement

Spoke to someone the other night who lives in a complete black hole for signal and recently started getting 4G there on EE. No new sites have been built in the area but there are some 800 sites around which may reach there so I'm awaiting on a Field Test screenshot.

The issue with 4G failing to switch back to 3G when making a call is still a problem. I tried to call my Grandma from a 1 bar 4G signal at home and didn't even hear it ring, it just cut out straight away. Sure enough, it's now on 3G (WiFi on but VoLTE icon gone and signal bars up to 3 so I could tell). In fact, I actually ended up on 2G when I called which is odd as the 3G signal strength was good.

It only seems to be an issue on a weak signal though. VoLTE works fine on a good signal (no issues at all calling from my flat when at uni) and seems to switch back to 3G without a problem if the switch down happens during the call.

Given how complex VoLTE is this could be half a network issue, and half a handset issue; as you have a VoLTE icon I know its an Android, as iPhone doesn't show any VoLTE indication. (It does show WiFi calling).

I'm still surprised Android phones need to show a VoLTE icon - just confuses the majority of users surely?

That could well be the case. I don't know anyone on EE with a compatible iPhone that could come round and test it sadly, so I don't know for sure. It's just a shame as it works great if the signal is strong or it has to switch mid call. For some reason, a weak 4G signal during call set up causes it to drop straight away.

I personally like to see it, but only because I know what it means. It surely will be confusing lots of users. Saying that, how many really know what G, E or H or H+ means? 4G is probably the only one that people know about, and 3G on iPhones as that is displayed instead of H.
