Don't tease us anymore Jon!
I wasn't invited and didn't go, just saying that they had an event and I'm pretty sure this is what it was about.

They usually embargo news until 0001 so we may know in under an hour.

Personally I don't want or need 30+ meg indoors, that's what wifi is for. But 1800MHz really struggles to come in at home, work and in parts of town for various reasons. If I can get reliable 4G with VoLTE and enough bandwidth for casual browsing then that would be 100x better than now. I'd have thought just a few well placed cells would achieve this. Hopefully the real world coverage will match what the coverage maps have been (massively) overstating for ages!
Indeed, for me it isn't to do with speed at all. More for getting the extra little bit out of coverage from existing masts. Now, we are yet to see if they will have it on enough masts on a high enough power to actually deliver on that. But for properties like my parent's house, where you can just about get 1 bar of 2G signal by the windows that disappears once you move further into the building, 800Mhz 4G could well help.

Hi, I've tried looking on Google but been unable to find out how I can try and lock my phone to band 20. It's a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on the BTU Nougat Rom.

Can anyone advise the best way to do this?

Thanks

This could all turn out to be a big non event you know..
As if it's anything like threes 800mhz it doesn't exactly blow the doors off as more refuse to die at around 1 bar or -120db if you like, they have activated a site down the road from me (and have at least 2 more in a 6 mile radius) yet it still only dribbles inside the house vs -80db 2g Vodafone from the same mast, but I'm sure EE will have it set up differently/better, or at least I hope so.

Looks like the 800MHZ spectrum may be going live today, check out EE's latest tweet - 'We also have lots of news coming this morning, so keep your eyes peeled'! *Fingers crossed*

The thing is, EE won't have an immense number of enabled masts when it launches so it's not going to make a difference to everyone. Further improvements will come over the next few years due to new masts, 4G 1800 being added to current 2g or 2g/3g sites, and addition of 800 to a greater number of sites.

Has to be it. They also directed someone to the PR page when they asked about 800mhz.

I know, I noticed that too - just hoping it reaches my area. Currently can get 2 bars of 4G in one room of the house

Surely the main purpose of 800 is for calls initially. They won't want a huge amount of data going over it. It should solve EE's historic frequency disadvantage compared to VO2 900. It's always been EE and 3's main drawback.

Well I'm not on EE but can usually see 800mhz EE if I lock my phone to band 20 LTE only and do a network scan, in the centre of Telford this morning with a few large masts and stretworks masts around, did a band 20 scan and nothing visible from EE here so no improvements for shoppers and workers on EE unless the masts are still hidden from view.

Masts are hidden from view and not a full power.

the ones by me are hidden as per, but the sig level from it and a nearby vf900 is compareable. ie simerlar tx power levels.

11am for the announcement.

But, I suspect the switch on may already have happened.

If it has then it's done bugger all for my crappy indoor connection at work, lucky to get 1 bar of Edge signal most of the time.

Hopefully the coverage checker will be updated soon to show 800 and then we can start to see who has it and who doesn't.

The switch on might also be phased, or not until the official release is issued at 11am.

I'm in Nottingham city centre so they may not even have 800 masts here since it's pretty built up with decent 1800 and 2600 coverage, was hoping 800 would solve some of the 4G black spots and help with indoor coverage.

... but doesn't seem to show any improvements in coverage in any of the areas I go to that have poor 4g coverage.

Nothing for me either where I know there are 800mhz masts.

Maybe it's been updated as the map is just waiting to be enabled for the 800MHz side? Surely they'd show it as a separate layer?

While it should be a case of flicking a switch, there may still be various processes to go through. It may be staggered. Users may even need to re-register on the network.

Lots of reasons not to necessarily get disappointed yet.

I'll have the details of the press release on my article live at 11am. Not that this gives more specific times, but it does give a bit more detail beyond what I originally wrote.
