Not going live until the 1st December...

EE will soon be switching on a new 800Mhz frequency 4G signal to improve indoor coverage in half a million homes, plus boost superfast 4G coverage to 75% of the UK geography, benefiting our rural customers.

We’ll be switching on the first batch of sites equipped with 800MHz spectrum on 1st December. There are around 700 sites in this first group, and there are a little over 3,000 more sites with 800 spectrum to be switched on before the end of 2017.

That's odd, the press release stated they did it last night!

EE have just confirmed via twitter that the coverage checker has not been updated to reflect 800 MHZ yet - but they have advised its due to show these changes from the 1st of December.

Well that was even more underwhelming than I was told to expect. Should be 1000 -1500 by end of the year and big chunk of the near 4000 should be on by late Summer.

Find it ironic that EE talk about operators and misguided coverage expectations, they are the worst for it, there coverage checker is borderline fantasy, blue almost everywhere when in reality you can't often get it even when forcing 4g only. They have the best coverage across 3g & 4g at the moment, just wish they were more realistic about where you can get it.

So doesn't seem like many of these masts are 'hidden' then, just not yet upgraded or switched on. Be interesting to see where in the listed counties that anyone has noticed a difference in coverage and how strong the signal is so we can ascertain the power levels of sites.

Is anyone seriously surprised? EE have a long history of not getting things out on time. The only solace being that when they do, they work (mostly). Once 3 get wifi calling on more phones, it's going to be seriously tempting I think, especially as they give everything to all customers including PAYG. They also seem to have managed a decent 800 rollout already, while EE are busy cooking up press releases.

Doesn't matter to me any more, I'm contracted to EE for the next 2 years and I expect things will be WAY different by the time my contract ends. EE wifi calling is awesome and I use my mobile instead of the landline now. EE 3/4G is great out and about, far better than VO2 down here. BUT. Your phone will still ring in more places on VO2 and now probably 3 (assuming supervoice compatible) than on EE,.

Come on EE, just turn the prick on. Work out the detail later. Flick the switch.

That is fair. Where I live the EE checker is BS. The others pretty accurate. Says I get good indoor coverage. Nope, struggle for 1 bar outside the front door.

I actually wonder if this is the BT influence creeping in ie, 'We have the capacity and capability of giving rural users a much better service but we just won't because we are *****.'

Jonmorris did give the game away that only a fraction of the sites would be ready this year. His report last week said 5000sq km would be added, it would have been much more if nearer 3,800 were going live this year.

Now they're saying the masts are broadcasting, but they need to enable users' access to them over the next week. Then the coverage checker will be updated from the 1st December.

By then hopefully everyone will have forgotten and not notice that they won't notice any difference that was brought to their notice the week before.

Well, this has turned into a bit of a farce, hasn't it?

I'm hoping (but not much) that they haven't turned on the first batch yet and it is actually the 1st!!

EDIT: Scrap that just seen the above

I don't see why the sites I've seen for MONTHS won't be ready though. (since March)

While it would be a bit of a mess if they've activated the sites but not the users (I'd go as far to say it's somewhat cheeky too), we're talking about a wait of just one more week and likely less if they're doing users in batches.

It's not the end of the world - but it is similar to when Three 'launched' 4G but it took a few months before most people were given access.

Still neither network technically lied...!

Gigabit is getting a bribe

@Gigabit – Thanks for taking the time to help out here in the EE Community.

Because I loved the feedback you gave today, I’d love to treat you to dinner on us.
I’m going to private message you – please reply to that message with your address details so that I can pop a restaurant voucher in the post. (Don’t reply in this public area as we’ll all be at your door wanting to come along)

Keep up the great work – it’s the people here who make this community a great place to be – and enjoy your meal out!

I...don't know what to say.

I was picking up 800MHz at home the last time I was there but it was quite weak. Maybe when I'm back the coverage will have improved.

Some impressive 4G coverage gains when you flick between the November/December 2016 slides.

today picked up for first time 4G800 with my Iphone SE and on the left top of screen was showing 120dbm. Does that mean it was on full power? It was changing every time I check-115dbm, 125dbm,120dbm

It's a big increase (it's geography not population as well) in just 12 months. Glad I just joined EE.
