I have been trying to figure out how I record on my youview box but nothing in the user manual about recording.I read somewhere I need to use a external drive to record on and once it has been used for recording it will no longer be able to be used on my laptop.Tried to find out on the Talktalk community forum but cannot find out how to compose a message

Which Youview box is it and which channels are you wanting to record?

A few basic details will help others provide you an answer

Since you mention TalkTalk I presume you have TalkTalk TV with their basic box?

In which case you cannot record on it. It has the ability to pause up to 30mins of TV but nothing else.

For recording you need their TalkTalk + box.

Here's your answer. https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/...s/td-p/1055418

I didn't know these boxes existed. I was sent one with full recording facilities and more space than I'll ever use.

As posted above that is the basic "non-recording" box. If you want to record TV you'll have to upgrade to their Plus box.

Have just gone into my talktalk account and checked + box and they want £299 for it and for the amount of time I will be using it not worth it.But have been told I can use a external hard drive and record to that but not sure if that is correct. If not will just have to use catch up tv.

You might find the answers to this question on the TalkTalk forum interesting

Seems the USB ports don't really do anything. Unless things have changed significantly since that was posted (so far not found anything to suggest it has). So doesn't seem very likely that you could plug a hard drive into one and get it to do anything useful.

£ 299 for a recording box is way OTT.

A look on Ebay will find you one for much less.

Indeed -- sometimes less than £10...

Indeed these boxes seem to be some of the most underrated available -- most likely because they are BT/TT branded, even though both vendors' boxes work with any service provider.

I use them instead of investing in the poor quality and hobbled 'smart' TVs.

I have a BT branded Humax Youview box (DTR-T1000) that I bought cheap and I am with TalkTalk. When I connected it to the internet and updated the players software, "TalkTalk" appeared in the players section along with the normal free services, but not BT.
It seems that a Humax box will work with any of the streaming services.

I have a Humax box as well model number PVR-9300T but lately have had a few problems with it especially recording.I went away for a week and set it to record some programs but when I got back nothing had been recorded and when I checked recording schedule there was nothing scheduled to record and also when I went into tv guide it was completely empty.Sometimes when watching a recorded program towards the end it just jumps to the credits before the end.So thinking of changing.
