Why on earth are we surprised about

dull song choices every week when 3 of the 4 judges are age 55+ and having known someone that used to be a producer on the X Factor, he was also in his 50's. I know they tried to make it younger last year, but picked the wrong people or Nick and Rita didn't get to pick the songs that their acts sung, plus Simon instantly took a dislike to Nick so he didn't stand a chance.

Surely they need to completely revamp the production team and the judges to aim at a younger audience because i am in my mid 40's and I am finding all the song choices boring, repetitive as used many times before and old fashioned.

How on earth are you supposed to tell what kind of artists these people will be if you give them old fashioned music every week.

There must be some recent film tracks that could be used.

Emily or Ryan who both play guitar could have sung Falling Slowly from Once, Oscar winning song, going back to the artists they started out as, fantastic song.

Ryan could have sung Lost Stars from Adam Levine in Begin Again.

Or Emily or Saara could have sung Flashlight - Jessie J from Pitch Perfect

5AM could have done Can't stop the feeling, Trolls

There have been loads of musical films that have interesting sound tracks, doesn't have to be the boring songs we have heard so many times before. Snore fest zzzzz

So they did. But I am just using examples of songs from this century, not Jailhouse Rock, My heart will go on, all the usual boring old songs that make the artists seem old fashioned. Rather than changing an old song and trying to make it modern, how about singing a modern song!

I'm sure it's been discussed in the past about licensing songs to allow the contestants to sing them.

A quick Google search (literally done in seconds) shows:

Bad Lashes sang It Must Have Been Love in 2008.

Sam Bailey sing My Heart Will Go On in 2013.

Only The Young sang Jailhouse Rock in 2014.

Che Chesterman sang Try A Little Tenderness in 2015.

However, Writing's On The Wall and It's Like That (and Gettin' Jiggy Wit It) have never been performed on a live show before so there is some originality going on.

Yay...Will Smith for Honey G again...what street cred she has...

Someone who was known for being uncool in the 90s!

Who cares if he is viewed as "cool" or not? Will Smth's albums are always great.

They are only dull because they are not performed very well. The test of a well written song is that it can stand the test of time and has the ability to successfully jump genres. Your comment is ageist and ill informed. This is about music nothing else. You assume its only young people who watch the program or buy music. Your wrong! The biggest consumers are mature people. That's why there is an overs section der!
