Gemma being ashamed of being a size 12

Am i the only one a little annoyed at corrie making Gemma seem ashamed at being a size 12 last night? im tall and slender and im a size 12/14 and no shame in it at 5'7 no way would a pair of size 6 jeans fit my long legs, but i think making Gemma seem ashamed of being a size 12 last night is a bit distasteful , what with the pressures for young people and sizes to imply a size 12 is something to be ashamed of is a bad idea in my opinion

I'm 5'6 and a size 12. I'm actually quite happy to be a 12 after losing a few pounds and wearing a 14 before. If the average size of a woman in the UK is a 16 why would anyone be ashamed of being a 12? I agree with you and I also think that Gemma is dressed badly to make her look bigger - like when she has an overhang because her trousers are so tight. Put her in the right size and she'd not have that problem.

yeah i know i found that scene weird too! Gemma's not even fat. i don't get why they make her seem and sound fat on the show tbh cos she's not

she's short but nowhere near fat

Nothing wrong with size 12

I'm not sure it was her being ashamed, I think she's spent her whole life lying and putting on a front that it just comes naturally now.

What's more, she seems to be turning a corner now she's got a job and people such as Chesney and Rita who actually seem to like her for who she is. Plus she's 'done the right thing' and grassed someone up for murder and come second in a good citizen award thing. It's all about her redemption - her former scally life morphing into a normal life, as it were. When someone offers her a flat in the CS area it will move up another gear, mark my words!

The actress has belly fat. That is undeniable.

Gemma though is oblivious and slightly arrogant about it though. There was a scene once where she had a crop top on with her gut spilling over her jeans and she commented on another female character looking fat. This summed her up perfectly. She is such a body positive girl.

The scene of her dress size was really a dead end for her, she had to admit what size she really was in order for the clothes to fit.

"I've got a silver boob tube that makes me rack look massive!"

I laughed out loud at that.

I assume you're on about Coronation Street Gemma?

A couple of months ago she wore a gold outfit, and damn she looked good! She's certainly not fat.

She dresses as a stereotype a council estate girl who wears ill fitting clothes not unheard of.

To be fair, it's very realistic that a young woman is embarrassed about being known to wear a size 12, that she thinks she is fat when she isn't.

Most women lie about their dress size though and wish they were smaller, its pretty normal.

Gemma is dress size 16, and shoe size 12. BlueEyed MrsP says.

This.

She comes over as looking short & tubby, I'd have said she was easily a size 14. But because she is so short she probably needs to be a size 10 at least, to look more in proportion. I would think a size 12 is an ideal dress size for most of us of an average height of 5.4 to 5.7

I don't think anyone is shaming her for being from a council estate but you can't deny that there is a stereotype of a lower class chavvy girl in the media. Look at Vicky Pollard!
