Nope, I gather, er, you can't. Not that I asked or anything.

Boz. You are mocking an FM on another recent thread for his/her opinions and have frequently dismissed posters as 'Moffat acolytes' so come on, mate. And it doesn't matter how long people have been here; you don't get a badge or anything after a certain time!
No I am not mocking a poster for their opinions on another thread. That poster has stated as fact something that is not true. Before my latest post I had used the phrase "Moffat acolytes" once. Please get your facts right.

I agree. I cannae speak for this forum as I don't know the lay of the land as to what people's opinions are although I've seen a bit of the same thing I have found in the fandom at large with regards to those criticising it. Lets just say there seem to be quite a fair few Goldilocks types about. They seem to have this perfect idea in their head of what the show should be and if its not just right, if it isnt exactly what they want then they will tear it to pieces or at least complain ad-nauseum. You see them all about. One minute they are deriding Moffat for episodes like Heaven Sent and claiming the show is too dark or ponderous or slow and that the kids don't care anymore and its not populist enough. The next thing you know they're complaining that its too silly or childish and just using superheros to jump on the bandwagon. Talk about a rock and a hard place. As I said before if I was to be selfish then I would happily watch 13 Heaven Sents a season but I know that would be no good for the show. So I shall be happy to watch something a bit lighter, with a bit of froth and hope it appeals to a mass audience at Christmas and I know there will be something, whether its just one scene or a line of dialogue or a character that I will LOVE so it will be all fine. To be honest I did not think much of last years episode apart from the last ten minutes which were superb and a strong beginning. I thought it dragged in the middle but many loved it, enjoyed the knockabout fun and I understand that, especially after Clara's extended exit from the show.

I fear this Special will get judged even more harshly than usual because we have had such a dry year with no Doctor Who at all to speak of. I'll take what I'm given and look forward to S10.

Oh and I'm with you on Kong: Skull Island. I know we have all been fooled by good trailers before but this looks brilliant. Some amazing talent in the cast, And it was one of those films I would have said I had zero interest in when I first heard of it. But King Kong with a bit of Apocalypse Now flavour plus Tom Hiddleston, Sam Jackson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly? SOLD. I'm there opening night don't you worry about that!
A bit of reading comprehension 101 in order perhaps?

Go on. Point to the bit where I 'attacked' other forum members! I am eager to hear it so I can amend my post accordingly.

Of course not. I thought as much.

Yes terribly easy .I thought it was quite clear that I was saying that I couldn't speak for this forum and the people here but I had seen a little flavour on Digital Spy of what I have experienced in the wider world on GB, Den of Geek, Twitter, Facebook and IRL with regards to those more vociferous critics of the show. And this doesn't just apply to Moffat's era. I found it quite the same during RTD. This is not attacking anyone, at least certainly not individuals. Maybe I am expressing my own personal dislike of a certain culture that has arisen among fans in general (and more recently not just DW) I just happen to think that for better or worse (I say worse, others would not) that Doctor Who has some of the fussiest fans you will find on planet earth. I think too often it is expected to be everything to everyone in ways that people just don't demand from other programs and as such whoever is showrunner or writing an episode faces a challenge that they might not otherwise face on say a program like Game of Thrones. This is testament to the wide appeal of Doctor Who and the fact it probably has one of the most varied demographics for a show of its type. But it poses problems for those writing it.

Not an attack to be found. If it happens to strike a chord with some forum members here well then thats on them not me. And at least one forum member agreed with my point.

I had always thought I had seen, nay indeed purchased, every RTD episode ever made but clearly I must have missed a few.
No, it's more likely that you just have poor taste.

Doctor Who has always favoured dialogue over action, so it's not exactly new. Not a bad thing either, dialogue is far more important. Action scenes tend to make me switch off when not handled correctly (sorry, overblown Hobbit trilogy).
Yes, but then there's dialogue - where people talk to one another, exchange information, move the plot along - and then there's Moffat's stuff which is just page after page of peoplebeing terribly clever and and quippy and monotonously one-note. You really can't do an adventure series in the 21st century without having some spectacle, the audience won;t go for it. Dr Who is currently scuppered by the fact that Moffat's idea of something visually exciting is having people hang off/out of things.

Well I hope there is some VERY good writing, to justify that clip on Christmas Day.

I wouldn't hold your breath...

You seen to be a Moffat apologist so that seems unlikely.

Didn't last long, did it! Cheers!

Perhaps we need a poll. Are people who have the bad taste to generally enjoy the Moffat era a) Acolytes b)Apologists c) Fanbois d) Worshippers? or e) All of the above?

There'll be someone along in a minute saying they are definitely not a fan of Moffat, and can be very critical of him at times, but they just happen to think he's practically perfect and everyone who thinks differently should be quiet.

I'll nail my colours to the mast - RTD fangirl and proud.

The episode looks like it'll be an okay one. I don't know if it'll pull more or less ratings than last year's special though.

Now is the time for more promo pics and a trailer though as we get towards the end of this month.

Don't worry, the Flat-Gallifreyers can all blame an earlier slot for its poorest performance of any Christmas special, after having blamed a later slot for the 1.5M lost in the last series

Mind you that came after they blamed airing the show in the winter for lower ratings after spending years swearing blind it would get double the audience and trash the X-Factor if it wasn't shown in spring.

Like the Liberal Democrats actually getting into Downing Street, the fantasy is well and truly busted, everyone knows it and can see it plain as day, and things will never be the same again, even if you do replace Peter Capaldi with Tim Farron and change the logo.

That's . Going by what I'm watching at the moment DVD and recon-wise, I'm currently in a big Hartnell/Lambert/Wiles/Lloyd 'Fanboy' mode! If people think the Hartnell era sucked, fair enough, but I think it'd be unhelpful for them to dismiss my views as one of a 'Hartnell Apologist' or the like. No debate there at all. Oh, I know what I mean! Not taking it too seriously, honest.....

eta Ooh, someone has been silenced by a 'big red button' I see....
