Not many. I want to scream 'it's not real' but it probably wouldn't register.
I don't think you need to worrry yourself about others

He's so OTT hammy though. I can't see how anyone can take him seriously.

Please let him be gone soon. Alas I fear he is going to be allowed to stay. Vinny is going to abscond with the money, Phelan will convince everyone he knew nothing about the scam, Eileen will believe him of course, no one knows the truth except Michael, who's now dead and Anna, who no one will believe because they didn't believe her before. I actually thought he would be gone soon and that this plot would be finished, but you just know it's not going to happen.
Yes, I think Corrie have a lot more invested in Phelan to let him go, I look forward to seeing how he gets away with this one. He didn't murder Michael, but perhaps killed him through neglect. Of course Gail will go through all the weeping and wailing as she always does when one of her many loves quits this earth, and how Eileen will react I have no idea.......she swings from distrusting Phelan and questioning him, to believing all his stories of weddings and honeymoon in Mexico. Bring it on, this Corrie fan sits waiting......

Yes I agree. DS just likes to come up with what they fondly believe is some sort of 'ironic' hero worship of scumbag characters - doesn't matter how many times it's done, they still think they're being really funny and milk it to the nth degree.

Personally I don't normally care that much either way about soap characters but I really wasn't happy with the disgusting way Phelan spoke to Anna the other night. Fictional she may be but the character is a broken woman in a great deal of pain, yet Corrie thought it was OK to include dialogue like, "I like me bacon well done, not me women". Totally ott and unnecessary humiliation imo.
Thank heavens! I was beginning to think I'd been watching a different programme to the posters on this forum.

No it wasn't. it was realistic. Never mind the hatefilled things she said to him. It was obvious what she was doing - letting Michael off to ransack the building site for evidence

Phelan should have picked up on this at the beginning
The crude comments he made about bacon and crime brûlée, relating to her burns, was way out of order, and any hateful things Anna said to him were well deserved

He's leaving soon as Connor McIntyre is starring in panto this year. Luckily he's had plenty of practice with his panto villain acting the last 6 months.

Having said that, what was the purpose of your post saying it makes you wonder about some posters?

She'd start the argument and he'd pick up on it. She's got a sense of entitlement - look who she bullies anyway Faymian and dozy Kevin

He could be thrown out by Eileen, move on to Gail and marry her. That would guarantee he will die in the not too distant future and end his time on Corrie.
Well said, Janet!

The responses on this forum are unbelievable. People actually think the awful things he said to Anna were great. They want to see him get one over on her and are glad he got the better of Michael. Am I living in a parallel universe? This forum always does seem to have different views from the public in general though. No one I know that watches Corrie can stand Phelan and were all hoping he would be gone by now and yet I come on here and there appears to be some kind of Phelan hero worship.
I agree with you.

Phelan is meant to be vile and if he wasn't so panto and ott he would be. I can't understand how people like him and believe in the character. It's fiction!

My opinion on Phelan is somewhere in the middle sometimes I detest him and want him to leave and other times I find him quite an interesting character.

It was nice to see the swindler being swindled last night. Of course it gives Phelan a believable deniability about the flats being a con though.

No, you just have a different opinion, as do we all on all different matters in these forums.

I'm so grateful when other posters remind us ocassionally that we are watching fiction, otherwise I'd spend way too much time checking the news for updates on Corrie crimes.

Trouble is, people want it both ways. They're happy to shout 'it's not real' to justify some of their horrible nasty comments about a fictional character that they wouldn't dream of uttering irl - it's an easy cop out - but at the same time the Corrie SOR thread for example is full of scathing comments about every minute deviation from real life. How does that work then? Seems to me it's not real when one needs an excuse to be vitriolic yet it apparently is real when one spots something that doesn't reflect reality.

The SOR thread is all about the bumbling mess in the making of the show, continuity errors being one of the biggest. It is not about it not being like real life. I won't ask if you actually read through that thread on a regular basis because your use of the word scathing suggest you resent it's presence, but if you did you would see exactly what's discussed in there.

Actually all I want is the freedom to comment as I see fit about a fictional soap and it's characters, nothing more nothing less.

And you have that freedom. Just as I have the freedom to judge characters.....and real people, as I see fit.

I don't think the term is ambiguous but enough already. I've given my thoughts on the matter.
