I know Corrie is on a roll when I'm actually looking forward to the 2nd episode. I always used to feel like a budding masochist having to force myself to watch the rubbish not once but twice a night. I am actually keen now and have enjoyed all the episodes this week. I know there is still crap but there always will be some with all soaps. The issue is does the good outweigh this and on Corrie with the added Barlows and PHELAN it does whereas EE is just mediocre at best and down right tedious at worst.

you might think corrie is better but t`ve just looked at the viewing figures & corrie has dropped under the 7 million mark & not a big lead from EE as people thought

Corrie is creeping above 7 million whilst EastEnders didn't even touch 6 million all week. Appalling for EastEnders in November.

Ratings mean nothing to me personally. Quantity doesn't mean quality. Saying that corrie was terrific last night but it's a bit soon to say it's getting back to its best imo.

Anything with Phelan though is gold

Its full of variables and the dynamics can change from episode to episode. For example, IMO friday's Emmerdale episode for me compensated for an otherwise average week on the whole. Suddenly then it doesn't look as bad. You could say that there are pluses and negatives for all of the UK soaps, with no one really pulling away at the moment. CS though ends on a good week, let's see what next week brings

Danny, I agree and you make very good points. It's all swings and roundabouts in essence.

Corrie is still abysmal.

EastEnders has had a major turnaround and is, in my opinion, making far much more 'progress' than its northern rival.
You have got to be joking.

I agree!!

Ratings mean nothing to me & I don't understand the forum's obsession with them, let ITV/BBC worry about ratings, most of which are totally messed up anyway by people like myself who record Corrie when at work & watch it later at my leisure!!

Plus 'quality' is down to individual opinion & is dependant as you have proved here, to some degree, on whether a character/characters who are your favourites are heavily involved!! I actually hated the Phelan/Anna scenes & found that first friday episode ridiculously far fetched but thought the second episode was a vast imorovement but that's just my personal opinion too!!
I know that so far you have slated Kate Oates even saying her Corrie is worse than under Blackburn, which is fair enough, I'm not knocking your opinion, but equally I have thoroughly enjoyed most of her stuff & that is, I fully admit, down in part to the fact that she has rescued my favourite character from Blackburn's wilderness & restored her to a
prominent character again!!

That said it is a lot more than just that making me look forward to current Corrie episodes again!!

I'm really glad that on this forum, unlike on the old DS comments 'ratings page' we seem to, by & large be able to compare soaps with good humour rather than descending into 'my soap's better than your soap' playground squabbles!!
I have never regretted leaving those old comments pages behind & signing in over here!!

EastEnders must be seriously on low form if Corrie is considered the "best".

Bib. I say that about Oates because I dislike her tendency for sensationalism and changing characters personalities which was basically her last 18 months or so on Emmerdale. I definitely will praise where I think it's due though.

I'm happy that you're enjoying the Maria stuff aswell NDD. I just personally happen to think the plot surrounding Maria is very poor. To be fair Samia is playing it well with a pretty shoddy script.

Also good point about enjoying stuff where a favourite character I'd involved but I think it's also to do with a better plotted story. The seeds were set about Phelan under Blackburn to be fair.

Also completely agree about soap wars. I like all of the big 3.

It's like the two soaps have reversed roles. Corrie had been background noise for so long, while I made a point of sitting down to watch EastEnders, but now EE is boring me and I am often on internet when it's on, whereas Corrie is currently must-see TV. Friday's episode where Phelan left Michael to die was gripping.
