CS-I always suspected Phelan was a sadist
Yep the best acting from Les Dennis ever playing a dead person, as for Conner McIntyre he is always good. 
Phelan is tv gold and long may he continue in the Street. Some of the lines he said to Anna were cruel but funny he had some great one liners.

The character has been ruined beyond repair now though. He's now just an out and out evil monster who needs to die a painful death asp.

So he still had a chance when he was just blackmailing vulnerable women into having sex with him and extorting money from just Owen 
The one thing that stands out about Phelan is that his character is consistent. He's always had brilliant and cutting one liners and just about always used these to cut people down rather than violence. He is smarter than any of them and always manages to come out on top which is fine by me
Personally I felt desperately sorry for poor Anna during those scenes between her and the sadistic Phelan and I think Debbie Rush portrayed the part of a broken and humiliated woman in horrible physical pain to perfection, kudos to her.
Tbh, fiction or not, I think his sadistic mental torture (with the added implied threat of further sexual abuse on her) was rather gratuitously offensive and not really necessary since it appears he's not going anywhere for a good while yet and we already knew what a nasty b*stard he is.
