I did, I liked his character, he was a good bloke and finally Gail was happy again and he was excited for their renewal of vows, it was a tragic end, and evil Phelan just stood and watched.
Les Dennis was great in the role, shame he didnt want to stay any longer though, Gail deserved at least ONE husband to stay alive for a while! |

I thought for a moment after he first collapsed that he was faking, Phelan knew he had a bad heart, and that after Pat walked away, Michael would get up and scarper out of there. Wasn't expecting him to die. There will be even more tension between Gail and the Windass family if Gail finds out that Michael and Anna were plotting to catch Phelan out and he ended up dead.

No exactly the opposite, some of the best acting Les Dennis has done in corrie laid there dead as Michael, maybe he should go back to stand-up or hosting quiz shows as acting is not his strong point.

I'm sad to see him go as I liked the character with Gail but they did him no favours whatsoever pairing him with Eileen, it was a complete mismatch & just a contrived way of carrying on the Gail/Eileen feud!!
I would have felt more sorry for him had his determination to bring down Phelan stemmed from concern for his fellow residents, but it only ever came across as sour grapes for what happened with Phelan & Eileen!! I've said this before but I think far more & far better drama could have been made if Michael had lost his life in the David & his car revenge plot the other week, maybe if he'd been the one to save Lily from David's driving but lost his own life in the process!! That way he would have died a hero, this way he died looking like a bit of a loser, giving the loathsome Phelan the chance to gloat about it! |

I didn't feel at all sorry for him - he's been an idiot from the moment he set foot on the cobbles. I don't know why so much screen time was devoted to the death of such a crap character. We should've just seen him fall down a hole or something, then Gail gets the 'bad' news that he's carked it on Monday.

Yes I did feel sorry for Michael. I also feel sorry for Gail who's lost her fourth husband due to a death (apart from Martin) and Nick, Sarah who's lost their fourth father/stepfather and David who's lost his third stepfather due to a death. Quote:
Well I hope this is addressed. Charge Phelan, Vinny and Todd for the scam. No one should be allowed to scam people with dreams. A very sad story line IMO.
Spoiler
It will hurt Sarah whenever it happens to eventually find out Todd knew about the scam and still let her buy one of those flats as she said to Michael she trusts Todd.

Must admit I did feel sorry for him. The character was one of lifes losers, a weak man with a good heart but who always ends up messing up and I think Les Dennis played that well. Awful to be dying and in pain and have someone who could help you just watch and gloat, quite a haunting death. The actor who plays Phelan plays that gloating malevolence so well and although I am dipping in and out of the Street now I am glad I caught it last night as I thought this story in particular was very well done.

He was serving time for this so must have been pretty prolific and only came into the Platt's life because of burgling their house. I often think he only really hated Phelan because Phelan is so much better at criminal activity than him

I quite liked him in the end, but I'm kinda cruel when it comes to Gail I love seeing the character suffer.

A convicted burglar reverting to type and breaking into a building site? No, I have absolutely no sympathy and he brought it upon himself.

I did feel sorry for him yes. Pretty horrible way to go, quite slow, in the cold, having somevody refuse to help and recount a tale which wouldn't be out of place on Watership Down....Even when Phelan stopped taunting him, he was struggling trying to reach his phone, call to Gary, and had time to think about what was happening and how his loved ones would suffer following his death.
Nobody deserves that. |

Les Dennis is a generally good actor, but he was never right for Coronation Street and whoever thought he was needs slapping.
His Mavis impression alone should have ruled him out. |

Hated the character so very glad to see the back of him. The relationship with Gail had the pair of them as simpering idiots. The whole Fake Gavin storyline was pathetic (although the reveal episode was comedy gold) and how many times have they teased his death by telling us a shock could kill him, only for him to drip on and on and on.
