Polish People Unrepresented In Soaps? Would A Polish Family Work?

I think it would be fascinating especially since a large portion of the population of the UK has Poles in it that it is a little unrepresented in soaps.. (as opposed to Asians for example) especially seeing them cope with the affects of Brexit, culture differences etc.

Would anyone welcome a Polish Family?

Absolutely. Eastenders is the obvious one. I think they really failed with the character of Aleks as we had a good actor with potential to handle all sorts of stories, yet they went down the cheating on his wife followed by romance route. Of course an Eastern European character or family shouldn't be defined by their origins but given the current mood, as you say, it seems strange that Brexit, cultural differences etc. haven't been covered beyond a bit of casual racism from the odious Alfie Moon.

Yeah definitely
They should just create interesting characters that happen to be polish.
Would work well. I liked Aleks as a character. It's kinda crazy that there isn't a polish family to be fair.

As long as the actors play the roles well and they are given decent backgrounds i dont give two hoots about their nationalities.

They need Polish characters working in the factory on Corrie, instead of the detestable, lazy, gobshites. I miss Wiki Dankowska.

Was she played by the actress who popped up in Easties as Patricks carer? I thought she was good

Yes that's correct. The actress is Wanda Opalinska.

I agree it's crazy especially with the amount of Polish folk in the UK.

It would make soaps more diverse and represent the UK

I'd love some Polish person to replace Sean just to see the meltdown at him getting replaced.. they could do it that Aidan found Polish workers willing to accept less per hour

Corrie did that back in 2007 (well except the bit about replacing Sean!) but never followed it through, and Wiki was only ever a background character. There was a lot of missed potential there.

Eastenders could bring back Daniella Denby Ashe (Sarah Hills), who is Polish and was brought up speaking Polish apparently, as the familial matriarch.

I think one of the problems is finding minority actors. There just might not be many Polish actors in the UK. If not the soaps would have to go down the route of the actors acting Polish and being otherwise, rather like the De Marco family in EastEnders who were meant to be Italian but none of the actors were.

I wouldn't hold your breath anyway. Has Coronation Street managed a Jewish character in it's 56 years?

So much potential there and EE need a new family

There is a character called Agnes Nowak in EastEnders on the 28th- Nowak is a Polish surname.

EastEnders is very white british in my opinion even though its set in the multicultural East End.

We have lost a Muslim Family now the Masoods have all left.

It wouldn't work for Izzie. She would end up in terrible pain and back on crack. That sour faced cop would end up on long term disability like the other one.

Yeah they'd work...really hard! I hate to stereotype here but Emmerdale (and Corrie) have factories, when I worked in factories there was loads of Polish workers so they could bring in a stand alone character first and then a family? Loved my polish colleagues because they taught me swear words...I'm cultured.

They should have gotten a bunch of hard working workers to replace the lazy gobshites when they went on their laughable "strike" a couple of months back. But no, Aidan's logic was to buy the skiving workers cakes as part of a bribe...

Does this mean they have to add characters of every nationality that live in the East End of London, I'm sure there are plenty of other nationalities that are not represented by a character in EE?
