The only problem there is the shopping channels will squeal and lobby to stop such a change.

I'd prefer to see something like:

Entertainment channels 1-69
Shopping channels 70-89
Film channels 90-99

That way the shopping channels would all be grouped together (preferably to be hidden/deleted) but they'd be between two sets of general entertainment channels. They'd still whinge though.
Just buy a TV that lets you move the channels around e.g. Sony.

It's never going to happen. Freeview will be history long before then. You need to read some of the many posts on here about "DSO2".

DSO 2 is the combined frequency changes required to clear the 700 MHz band for mobile
And the last government was very keen that when this occurred the RF modulation would go to DVB T2 with AVC AAC coding AND tha the PSB would emit HD only ( btw on published figures this saves the BBC about£36 million a year )
So the last change to DTT perhaps ... it is being talked about fir say 2020 plus and minus say 2 years ..
That is why Freeview TVs are no longer made they are all Freeview HD etc ..

But terrestrial broadcasting is very cost effective for local services and satellite ( which has less coverage than the uk PSB DTT muxes) fir national plus coverage

Current BBC figures are about 2to 3 % viewing done on IP connection at a cost of about 12% of the distribution budget.... .

See the BBC trust vfm report http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/...stribution.pdf

Surely Film4 so the 9pm film could be shown in HD is the best fit for this slot?

I assume they don't have enough viewers for it to be financially viable, this slot is not a gift it has to be paid for.

The cost to use this slot will be notably cheaper than the circa £20m it was reported the BBC wanted for a full-time slot on PSB3 when Channel 5 first turned it down. If it's for 8hrs (21.00 - 05.00) of which realistically 4hrs of that is overnight then I'd say Channel 4 stand a good chance at grabbing this, if indeed they would want it for Film4 HD (and subject to their current contractual deals with Sky).

It could be possible for C4 to do a deal whereby, if the price was right, then they'd use the same capacity the BBC have available on their DSAT S2 TP to potentially also provide a version of Film4 HD FTA for Freesat too. Sky users could potentially not have this version on their EPG and thus see the 24/7 pay/encrypted version only.

Let's not get our hopes up... it could end up being used for QVC Beauty HD or something equally as dull!

But they have to weigh that against the number of viewers without DVB-T2 receivers they could potentially lose. It's a balancing act.

But it may have been mandation .....

Yes it is a balancing act but given typical lives of TV sets etc and a good publicity campaign
Etc wil minimise the problems .... the aerial issue is probably more concerning !

But thanks to the industry getting arround the government , Freeview (only) devices cannot be sold ... as the Freeview only accreditation does not exist .

But DVB-T only devices are still being sold, whether they have official 'Freeview' accreditation or not. And being at the lower end of the market they are probably being sold in very large numbers.

Hence the need for publicity .. actually I don't think that given a fairly saturated market that there are many DTT not Freeview dvb t kit being sold...

If there's nothing stopping Film4 HD launching on Freeview, you have to wonder why it hasn't already replaced Channel 4+1 HD or 4seven HD.

Could they perhaps use the capacity for a new BBC channel? They could call it BBC Three or something, fitting in between BBCs Two and Four.

Just a thought.

Except there's no BBC Four on the BBC HD Mux!

According to BARB they only have 182,000 viewers so pretty slim.

Go and have a look yourself: http://www.barb.co.uk/viewing-data/

This is all rather off-topic for this thread.

Not on the adult-chat channels, not on Freeview anyway.
