Radio tuner - I don't know who you are and what experience you have in radio, so I may be speaking out of turn. But if you cant say anything nice about a bunch of guys who have kept a station going for 50+ years, do it because they want to and make it sound alive then go away and/or produce something better

That comes across as very bitter radio tuner. However, would I would say is why not show the Manx audience what Caroline is about now in 2016 instead of talking about the pirate days all the time.

I agree Dave - it is 25 years since the Ross was saved from the Goodwin sands in a storm & Peter Moore & co have done a great job in preserving both the ship & Radio Caroline in it's various forms since then.
Certain people sadly, are eaten up with resentment of other's good deeds, for reasons best known to themselves.

The whole point of the weekend broadcasts, so far, has been to track the history of Caroline over the years. They have just covered the Goodwin Sands, so I would expect the story to continue to the present day.

Yes, I'm looking forward to that - Eric Wiltshire, was very helpful in the Satellite radio early days in the 1990s - I imagine he will be one that is interviewed.

I hope when the history lesson is finished into 2017 - they show us what the station is about now. If Caroline want to create more interest via the Manx broadcasts they'll come a time when they will have to stop 'narrow casting to the train spotters.

Try listening to the Radio Caroline stream to find out "what the station is about now".

I do. That's my point. Why not relay that next year.

Who knows what 2017 will bring ---- these broadcasts relive the atmosphere of a studio on a ship using different technology from all those years ago.
They also give the option of the Radio Caroline main stream or Flashback for those who don't wish to listen.

At the end of the day it's about Caroline providing Manx Radio with a programming and music format remit that the people in charge at Manx Radio want to be broadcast via their facilities to a wide audience and has so far obviously proved it works so why change something obviously popular and far from broken?

It is also about offering an alternative to the album led format that already exists and Flashback both of which have their own seperate audiences.

Caroline North should continue as it is doing something different. There is actually very little radio output on normal terrestrial radio offering a broad based 60s 70s 80s format.

These broadcasts are a breath of fresh air and offer an escape from the dross now being churned out across FM and DAB.
I am lucky enough to receive a strong signal on 1368khz and spend a fair amount of time in the car at week ends ---- I already listen to Manx Radio --- it's an excellent station.

Many thanks once again to them especially as the broadcasts have been extended into 2017.
Chris Williams, Carnaby Street on Saturday mentioned they would be building up to the anniversary of the Marine and broadcasting Offences Act 1967 in August .

Well, I for one thoroughly enjoy the broadcasts from the Ross Revenge.

I love how they go to such great lengths to make the broadcasts as authentic as possible. Even going as far as making the internet stream sound like medium wave...

I'm delighted to hear that the broadcasts are continuing since it is such a reminder of how music radio was until focus groups and American style 'genre/demographic'-casting started to dominate the medium.

We have the chance to hear a great selection of music presented by people with personality and a love not only of the music but also the station itself.

More simply, it meets my needs perfectly and gives me more pleasure in one weekend than most others could in a year. I'm pleased that others also enjoy and care. It has reminded me to listen to the modern streams. I enjoy both.

Though the Loving Awareness message was a little overplayed a bit of love and awareness in the world is no bad thing, which is why it is so disappointing to see the comment "narrow casting to the trainspotters" above which runs totally against the mentality or ethics of Caroline, even with the use of an emoticon. Why be so unpleasant? Hasn't the message of tolerance from Caroline reached you despite your regular listening? What a terrible shame that it seems it hasn't.

The essential idea of Radio Caroline North on Manx Radio was to celebrate that 1960s service which was so relevant to the Isle of Man and I'm pleasantly surprised that the Manx have stuck with it after the story has naturally switched to events far from Ramsey Bay.

I would suggest it is important to remember that Manx Radio are in the job of providing a service to the Isle of Man and that the assumption that this service should only exist to promote the present-day Radio Caroline is a very dangerous one to make. Manx Radio surely want an entertainment service, not an exercise in marketing.

I listen to both Flashback and the main Caroline,
but I do look forward to the broadcasts live from the ship.
So look forward to more next year.
The Flashback service is growing and now has alot of presenters and less of the
'Continuous Flashback Music'
great to hear presenters that have a passion for what they do.
miles better most radio stations/programmes.

well done to all involved.

Because a great amount of listeners want to hear exactly that.

The idea of promoting the present day Caroline is great, in theory, but I doubt that Manx Radio would be too keen. As I said earlier, we have to remember why this tie-up was created - to give a nostalgic nod to Radio Caroline North.

The needs of Manx Radio need to be considered or you put the whole project at risk. The strong link with Chris Williams' Carnaby Street gives a pretty strong clue that Manx consider the service to be there to give nostalgia to its audience and I'd be worried that turning it just into a huge plug for the present-day Caroline might be unwise.

The clue's in the title "Radio Caroline North" which WAS a piece of the 60s, not the 21st century. There's plenty of references to the current day service on the RCN broadcasts and those Manx listeners that might be interested can access it online. The overnight shows also do a great job of giving a taste of the album Caroline. I've enjoyed Suzy Wilde and Andrew Austin's recent shows very much as a contrast to the equally excellent pop nostalgia programmes.

"Going on about the past" I would suggest is exactly why the deal was set up and doing that is the reason it is thankfully succeeding.

I just want to enjoy superb radio. Right now I and any Manx listener has a choice of three Radio Carolines that we know aren't going to go aground or be raided. Okay, there's no AM service (yet) but we're better-off than Caroline listeners have been for a very long time. Let's not get carried away.

Perhaps someone from Manx might be able to guide us over this if they're reading?

I think we all will agree that there is an incredibly positive spirit that inspires the broadcasts from the ship and I hope that can be reflected here and avoid the usual depressingly aggressive level of DS debate

Yes a number of people do. But more probably don't. If they want to attract bigger numbers they need to move away from being too in. I'm sure even Caroline would like to attract more listeners. It's fantastic what they do but they need to move away from the constant anorak fest. It's a tune out for regular punters.
