Why the lies Emily?

Every week she says that she's mad at Simon duo the slow song choices or because she's trap in a square or in a circle or a single spot, and every week she says she's singing a more upbeat song or so...

Like... She was boring as usual, nothing new, and still, she was once again on the ground "trapped" in one single spot... Like? Dont know if its Simon or it is her... But common...

The show should've pushed the other two girls in the category, they was way more interesting imo with their Rock and Dance styles.

Emily could've been good, and to be fair I do feel that she was the best of an incredibly bad night, but they seriously need to give her I Will Wait, Ho Hey, or Ophelia by now.

I don't think she's lying, but has really no say over production on what she will sing and in what style. And I thought today the judges' comments praising the image Simon has created etc. was almost like they were really hammering down the message of 'don't you speak out of line, little girl, you will do as you're told' when last week they were criticising her slow and boring 'disco' performance and she dared to agree and then declared live on stage that she really really wants to do something upbeat. So this week they were reminding her how grateful she ought to be for the direction she's given.

Interesting thoughts there. I wonder how the show will survive for more three years...

Agree with this also sounded to me like producers have made her tow the line somehow!

Yeah there was a pretty obvious message in the VT. Even the other judges comments were praising Cowell which was a pathetic attempt to restore his reputation after last week. Truly pathetic.

Genuine question: Why when Matt says he chooses his song, its not questioned. Ditto when Ryan chose his song and Nicole says he picked it, nobody questions they pick their songs. But with Emily the excuse for her singing ballads every week is "She has no say"

Why do the boys have a say then? Why doesn't Emily?

It doesn't make Emily look good when week in and week out she hints at doing uptempo numbers and says she wants to do them and then her VT this week is a meeting with her and Simon and the part from last week is showing with her agreeing with Louis and the others that she wants to do uptempo. Then it cuts to her saying while she wants to do uptempo this week she wants to do another ballad? Are we meant to believe shes lying when she said that and the producers are telling her what to say?

Emily can do uptempo, we seen that two years ago but it wasn't the strongest vocal. I do believe she slows down every song she sings because they are too big for her voice at the correct tempo. So far the formula is working so she probably won't rock the boat anytime soon. Theres as much chance as Emily doing a uptempo number as there is Honey G coming out in a full length ball gown and singing a Whitney number.

I thought Emily was woeful tonight. She looked miserable throughout her song and I found the whole thing a depressing dirge. That being said, the song choices for everyone were poor. Movie week should, in theory, provide loads of choice, but it was stale and insipid - allowing Emily's drippy little dirge to end the show just summed it up for me.

personally i dont think any of them really pick their songs

at best they are maybe given a list of 3 songs and they get to choose which one of the three they do

given the sheer volume of recurring song choices we see i think its highly unlikely they ever have a free choice to sing anything they want

look at disco week, 5 of the 7 songs used last week were also used the previous time disco was the theme

Well, I certainly don't believe they get to choose their own songs. They're just playing along nicer than Ems and doing their lines like instructed. Apart from Ryan having a little blip on Twitter earlier this week which suggested he really wasn't happy with the song choice. The tweet got promptly removed.

The producers need to let Emily sing what she wants, the music that she has been given over the past few weeks is most certainly not her.

I want to see the Emily from the auditions again, not this, what on earth are the X Factor playing at?

Emily was never going to win let me put that right but, at the same time she hasnt been given a fair deal in my opinion.

Bingo. She has a small voice and I think she is also ill right now, she was coughing through the comments.

I totally agree, it's the same old thing all the time and so, so boring! If Simon had given more time to Sam and Gifty they would have still been in the show because they both had stronger voices than Emily. I truly thought he had the best category but I feel he's completely blown it and been quite awful as a mentor to the girls!

I cannot stand Louis but I think 5 after midnight have improved so much and I would love them to win now!

Yep my info is that they are very much just given their song and even a choice of 2 or 3 is a rarity.

My guess would be that a choice is only offered when they want to proclaim the contestant choose the song for whatever reason and i'd hazard a guess that the offered options makes the producers preferred choice the only real option!

ryan probably was given the choice of "Jailhouse Rock", the theme from "The Omen" or "Batdance" by Prince from the Batman movie

Exactly how I feel, I also feel that both Sam and Gifty had so much more potential than Emily but Simon decided to put all his eggs in one basket and just concentrated on Emily and now she's become so boring because it's the same old thing every week. She's a young girl for gods sake!

And Matt a choice of -

Writings on the wall
Theme to Peppa Pig in Golden Boots the Movie
Thank Heavens for Little Girls (Gigi)

Personally i think not choosing number 2 shows a grave error of judgement on his part

You don't have to be so damn rude, I'm not deaf and I found Emily so boring and insipid tonight too, Nicole was right in saying that Emily needs to go back to her roots. Simon is ruining her! Plus I'm no halfwit Tweenie, just for the record. You need to respect other members views on here!

You're probably not far wrong there. The alternative choices to the song they're forced to sing are probably so dire that they make the shit dong they've been given vaguely palatable.

I can imagine them saying to Emily 'ok you want uptempo, well you've got either smack my bitch up, bring your daughter to the slaughter or how about a lovely John Lewis version of viva forever slowed down to a funeral dirge - number 3 you say, great choice'
