I think Ed is taking a gamble, that so far, for him, is paying off. Others have done it and lost - Nadine Dorries and the Hamiltons spring to mind. They know that the public will feel they know someone better if they have been on a reality show. Strictly was the one to go for for him, because he is musical and likes the show, and there is no real time interaction with the others to lead to fallouts etc. If the public had hated him, so what, he'd have had a bit of fun before a career in writing, after dinner speaking or whatever. But they have taken to him, so the world is his oyster, and I can definitely see him returning to politics when the time is right. Hasn't done his other half any harm either.
