O2 or Vodafone
BleedRed
20-11-2016
Hi all,

Both O2 and Vodafone are offering similar package/price for the Samsung Galaxy s7 edge but I don't know which network to go with.

I have been with Vodafone before so know what to expect. My question is, is o2 better or worse?

Thanks in advance.

Dunno, but do the sums. Perhaps buy the phone unlocked and SIM free, and be free to chose a SIMO deal with whatever network will give you the best coverage ?

id say if you are in the east maybe go with 02 as they have 800+1800 on lots of masts otherwise voda has 800 2100 and 2600 on a rapidly growing number of sites in London and soon in the west

Vodafone is considered to be the better network overall, also going forward O2 will struggle to maintain capacity due to it's limited spectrum.

Yep if it wasn't for EE, I would choose Vodafone. Their future plans sound good and have a lot more spectrum than o2

Remember, Vodafone doesn't cap data, so if you go over the allowance in your plan, your wallet will not thank you.

Don't go over then, simple. Even with EE I always keep an eye on my data usage and they cap it. IMO it's your own fault if you're not vigilant on your usuage

I'm not with them, I'm with Three with unlimited data.

My argument is that Vodafone really should introduce automatic caps on their data allowances. Plenty of people have been stung, and remember not everyone keeps a close eye on allowances. Plus their excess data charges of £6.50 for every 250MB block of data is quite frankly obscene. Even if someone goes over by 1MB they'll still face a £6.50 charge.

Every other major network stops data once you've reached your limit, why can't Vodafone?

They'll introduce caps eventually. It's something they want to introduce but I suspect its due to their billing platform being a pile of shit.

I do agree with you slightly and those out of plan charges are extortionate, but it's also not hard to open an app everyday to check your remaining usage.

Like Gigabit said it's probably due to VF's archaic systems

The thing is Vodafone Can when I was on a Business Sim-Only plan, not only do they shut off data to avoid additional expenses but they can also stop anything going outside of your call/text allowances! They have just chosen the stubborn option that they do not support it yet they technically can and do for business customers currently!

Different platform for business customers. See my post above.

It depends where you are in the country and what your priority is (voice, data or a mixture of both?

If in London check this link:http://www.broadbandlondon.com/2016/...-ee-tops-data/

For what it is worth, Vodafone seems to do a good balance of voice and data.

From your link : "The only network at a national level that did not receive good performance was O2."

Somewhere I read Vodafone plan to start investing in the billing system in 2017, maybe because the Ofcom fine for poor customer service has kicked the management into realising its actually seriously needed.

The billing system was a huge investment! They spent billions on it.

Like the VF app? If thats anything like the website, it says that data usage may take upto 72 hours to appear.

So for fear of been charged £6.50 for 1kb of data (over your allowance) you are more than likely not to use the full amount of your allowance and so lose it as it doesnt roll over. They really are shit.

The irony is that the system the consumer customers are on is very new. But it goes down so often and seems to not be purpose built for Vodafone at all. It's an Oracle system which quite a few companies use.

Thanks for the replies, for those asking I am based in west Yorkshire.

I will probably go with Vodafone judging on the replies. Although a lot of my family have had bad experiences with them.

I don't want to buy the phone outright, it'll cost too much. The deal I have seen is pretty decent, 28 quid a month (unlimited minutes, 3GB data).

Ha yes, I can imagine - but if its Oracle then that's pure billing, rather than the customer service management side - which is probably the bit that needs improving. They do need to have a data cap though, that's basic stuff in 2016 :-/

It's a billing system with the customer service bit bodged on the end.

Bodged is a bit of an understatement

The deals not on mobiles.co.uk anymore damn.

I'd appreciate it if anyone would let me know if they see a similar deal please.
