I like Ed don't get me wrong but I don't want him to win.

I can understand why some people would though, and unlike Ann Widdecombe, he ACTUALLY DANCES!

If you think ED deserves to win based on learning to dance then Judge Rinder must win as at least he is taking it seriously and is looking to improve. SCD has done everything they can to keep ED giving him consecutive Latin dances to please the crowd eventually this is going to run out. in fairness I think Danny and Louise less so have had to much training prior to the show it was problem for Natalie Gumede and DVO why not for them. I think the winner should be judge rinder who has improved the most I might had said ORE but there is only so much wailing and constant self righteousness not to mention overmarking I can bare hope he goes ASAP.
Natalie and Denise were more popular than the polls and the Tabloid newspapers thought, they were predicted to finish 4th, they finished higher and didn't Natalie win the most shows on the 2014 Tour?

Can you tell me the lottery numbers for next week, given you clearly have a crystal ball or some mythical ability to see the future?

How do you know his fanbase is not huge?
He is consistently in the middle of the list when YouGov does its Strictly opinion poll on questions of who do you want to win and he is also usually in the middle of the list with all the social media views.
And also from all this evidence, it is as clear as day that Danny and Louise are the most popular with the public. Hence for someone who is 3rd most popular at best and forever bottom of the judges leaderboard, it is almost inevitable Ed will be in the Dance Off either next week or the week after. (I am betting the week after). His time is coming to an end.

PS: Also look at this forum's poll about whether he deserves to stay to the semi-final and final. Ed is not as universally popular as you seem to think. Far from it.

It would be a problematic result for the show but if the public votes for him...he should win.

I don't think Ed will get that far. I think Rinder, who many consider now...to be the weakest dancer left along with Ed...is a much bigger threat. I'm getting some serious Chris Hollins vibes from him.

It is an entertainment show and Balls is by far the most entertaining. If it was a dance competition they would all start from the same place - I.e all with previous dance training or all complete novices. Whilst I enjoy the glossy dances, I do so knowing that it is a bit farcical, as they were already trained in either performing arts or dance. The likes of Widdecombe and Grant were tiresome, because they really could not dance and comedy was all they had. Ed does have moves, and is being pushed into being a comedy act because they want him to look bad so he goes. I hope the BBC don't pressure him to leave - or if they do, that Ed ignores them. When he ceases to be entertaining, that is when he should go, not before.
In your opinion! I no longer find him entertaining and wish he would go.

Maybe my idea of being entertained is not the same as others.

I think this is spot on and he has a good chance of getting to the final- Chris Hollins style.

No one deserves to win just because of who they are, where they started from, the chemistry with their partner or just having a go.

The winner will be whoever gets the most public votes in the final.

As to whether they deserve that place or not, is entirely subjective.

I hope Ed wins - or Rinder

I am sick and tired of people who have obviously had stage school training competing with those who were not fortunate enough to get this, and sailing through week after week.
I would never be sick and tired of watching enjoyable dance routines.
However if Ed performs well, let him get as far as his efforts and enthousiasm allow him, be it the final.

If it's Ed against Danny, it'll be like Series 1 when the worst dancer was beaten by the best dancer, Natasha Kaplinsky.

The judges can keep the best dancers in but the public can save those in the middle or at the bottom of the leaderboard.

I have read this forum for several years but never posted before but feel moved to do so by what I see as so much snobbery by some posters who get angry when "better dancers' are eliminated whilst weaker ones are still in the competition.
I have read in many rants 'this is a dancing competition" as a reason why dancers like Ed should not make it beyond the first couple of rounds. Nonsense I say. This is a dancing competition which works on the premise that celebrities are taught to dance. I am of the opinion that it would be perfectly legitimate for the celebrity who has made the most progress in learning to dance to win the glitter ball.
It seems to me that each year the standard of the celebrities at week one gets higher and higher which I find rather boring, I would much rather see somebody totally out of there comfort zone making real progress.
Where are the rules that state that the best dancer had to win? The judges are there to judge from a professional perspective but the public who by a huge majority don't have the knowledge to vote from a technical perspective can vote for using any measure they
choose.
Ed Balls to win I say.
They are not rants they are opinions

I have to agree with this, Greg was a complete novice and he has improved much much more than Ed Balls, who unlike other 'comedy' acts (We have had none of those this year) can actually dance.

I would rate Ed more if he was getting through each week by doing serious performances. His popularity has increased due to him using comedy to get through each performance. Out of all of the underdogs, Greg probably deserves to win the most. He is trying very hard to get the dances right and isn't relying on tricks to get through the dances.

I'm expecting Ed to win, but he would be the wrong winner for me. I would rather anyone but him and Judge Rinder to win.
Yet Ed and Rob are my favourites. I quite like Claudia. For me, anyone but Danny is a worthy winner. I'm not even sure why he's on the show.

Danny has every right to be on the show. The producers invited him onto the show which is why he's on it. He is new to ballroom and latin, just like everyone else.

So why does Louise escape your dislike, she has just as much experience as Danny?

Just how many viewers of Strictly bother or even know about YouGov? Viewers make their opinions known by actually voting, not by telling the world what they think on an obscure website.

As a recent poll confirmed, far too many polls are coming up with incorrect results.

BIB: an irrelevant point.
Yougov give their questions to a sample of viewers who actually watch Strictly Come Dancing and these viewers are supposed to be a representative sample of Strictly viewers, so I wouldn't dismiss the findings.
And what about the number of views of the routines on social media? This is usually a close correlation with the figures and who ends up in the Dance Off.
Everything is indicating Ed Balls has middling popularity. I think the tide will increasingly turn against him in the next two weeks.

Why would it be "problematic" for the show?

My personal opinion...when I heard Ed Balls was doing SCD, my first thought was "He'll be rubbish and out first week" but now....if/when he's out I'll be genuinely gutted. However whatever the outcome I'll be, as always, depressed when this year's SCD finishes and eagerly awaiting next years.

Probably because he was invited! Having never done ballroom or latin dancing before and not dancing for about five or six years, he probably thought it would be fun!

People are also forgetting that whilst there are several good dancers left, there is only one underdog. So the spread of votes to the good dancers is thinner than the votes for the "entertaining underdog".

Because he's entitled to be just as much as anyone else! He has never danced ballroom or Latin, and he's not the only one of the current cast to have been to stage school - funnily enough you seem to be conveniently ignoring the fact that Robert Rinder has the same kind of stage school experience as Danny does...so maybe he shouldn't be on the show either on your line of reasoning?

The worthy winner is whoever the public votes to win, whether you or anyone else likes it or not. I'd hate it if Ed were to win because I actually care about the dancing, but if the public decides not to care about the standard of dancing, then so be it, there's nothing I or anyone else can do about it!

Well I make him 4/5f to go this week. We will have to wait & see, but I recon his time is now up.
