Prince estate sues Jay Z for violation of streaming music

Hip-hop mogul Jay Z’s Roc National claims TIDAL has exclusive rights to Prince’s music but the estate of the late artist is suing because of their streaming music from the legend’s catalog. Estate managers claim TIDAL only had a 90-day streaming exclusive for Prince’s “Hit N Run: Phase One” album. Any other music by Prince on Tidal would be in violation, including the 15 albums added by the service in July.

no wonder it is hard to find the video of 1999 on youtube. they must be suing people left and right.

Sadly, it is a mess. Since Prince did not believe in binding contracts (looks like this includes wills), Bremer can't find a contract with TIDAL either. This one could be another head-shaker.

Prince did support Tidal and Jay Z claims he gave permission for his back catalogue to be streamed on there. Prince removed his material from all streaming sites except Tidal before his death. Not an easy situation really.

Right, Prince did publicly announce working with TIDAL. The estate is making claims about TIDAL "going too far" plus some other things. With Prince's legacy and so much money at stake because of all that music, including unreleased material in the vault, this could get really ugly. smh

the estate is being treated terribly. with no will it's left things in chaos. family members privately aren't happy with what's going on. the bloke that got the dude that's in jail now out of jail before, keeps sticking his nose into things he has nothing to do with. he should stick to being a lawyer and let professionals run things

they advertised tickets for PP before even sorting out permission, the announced a tribute show months in advance before anything was organised and then they had to change the location to another city and advertised acts pulled out at last minute

it took months to put together an online store whilst it took days for folk on ebay to sell all sorts of unnoficial tat, and they still didn't manage to organise international shipping. not even temporarily asking ANY carrier to ship initially, then work out a better long time deal

most of the staff/guides at PP don't have a clue. one of them told punters that one area was where people like jimi hendrix used to party. presumably with jim morrison and elvis

the whole thing is managed as badly now as it was when he was alive

who knows what deal tidal had, but they've put a few bootlegs on the site, such as syracuse and small club, and they wouldn't have been officially approved
