Listening to him singing Don't you forget about me to me was painful.

Remembering how it was sung originally, he sung it to slow and way off key.

OH asked if he was drunk or high on some illegal substance !!!!!!!!!

They've been doing their catalogue of tunes acoustically lately.

Not great tbh

I know listening to a song recorded in a studio which has then been the equivalent of photoshopped and then listening to it sung live is no comparison.

I've got the simple minds live cd from their heyday and listening to Jim singing it live then and tonight made him singing it tonight sound like a very bad karaoke attempt.

Even taking into account he's a lot older.

I saw Simple Minds at the O2 about many many years ago. They were brilliant.

Never, in my lifetime, did I think Rick Astley would be better than Simple Minds. And then it happened.

Exactly, I was a big fan of Simple Minds. Bit of a shock to see Jim Kerr looking past his best. Yes Rick was much better (Again hate to admit it though)

I guess that's what being Liz Jones' (alleged) "Rock Star" lover for three years does to you...

Rick has always been a fantastic vocalist - tonight he was superb!
Have to agree that Jim Kerr was abysmal - I ff'd in the end as I thought he was drunk ( that's not very kind of me I know but it was cringeworthy).

I think its just simply his voice is past it. Like a lot of ageing male artists, Art Garfunkel, Neil Diamond and others. Female ageing singers don't seem to lose it quite like the males do for some reason.

Agree Rick Astley was good.

You are probably right but other male singers, even older than JK, can change the pitch/delivery and sound great.
Sir Tom Jones and Rod Stewart to name just two but now I have thought about it they are in the minority.
Sir Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard and Boy George are awful so I guess Jim Kerr is in the same league. It was just a shock to see him looking and sounding so awful.

It looked like the rest of Simple Minds were playing live as well, which is unusual. Quite taken by their drummer!

Mostly in agreement with you but have to say Cliff Richard is brilliant even at the age of 76. His live concerts are still excellent & his voice is as good as ever. Quite amazing.
Was disappointed tonight as really looked forward to seeing Simple Minds. Rick was actually better tonight than when I saw him a good few years back.

OK.

I was just giving my opinion based on his performance at The Diamond Jubilee Concert.

I think if he just stood and sang rather than moving around so much he could have controlled his breathing and voice better.
