His tears seemed genuine to me and how people on here can be so harsh about that I find astonishing. Most adult men do not cry easily and I'm certain he would not have wanted to be seen showing such a sign of weakness, in spite of what some of you are saying or think his motives are. Much kudos to Wayne. who seemed to genuinely care that he was so upset.

No, he's not being bullied. He's a grown man acting like a child, constantly being passive aggressive and negative about just about everything and making everyone feel awkward. Apart from Danny, no one is calling him out on his behaviour or trying to screw with him in any way, in fact quite the opposite, trying to encourage him nicely. I don't see any way how anyone can accuse anyone of bullying him.

Not at all. The bloke is an absolute whuss. Just grow a pair and man up! Sobbing like that on another mans shoulder, what the hell.

What's the matter Martin, why are you crying. Is your vagina sore?

Saw the comments on here before seeing last night's show. Have now caught up and as far as I could tell, Adam was about to go and get some water but was out of shot when Scarlett asked Martin to go and help him.

So Adam was actually already on his way to get the water at that point, but Martin remained by the fire and showed no signs of following him to help. This is why no-one was saying anything to Adam about the water situation because in that moment it was Martin dragging his heels. He then got a bit huffy as he saw it as being picked on, but really it's just him being a bit away with the fairies and Scarlett's requests going over his head.

Martin isn't necessarily more sensitive than the others but he's more vocal about his own discomfort and frustrations. The others are better at covering up their feelings or turning them into a joke. Martin seems to struggle with that and the effect is that how he's feeling or reacts to things in the camp seems exaggerated by virtue of the relative pragmatism of the group. What doesn't help either is that he's not eating properly while also complaining about the food when the rest are happy to just tuck in. This isolates him further as he's very expressive with his displeasure. This will be draining for both him and the group overall the longer it continues. This is why they were encouraging him to eat his beans. The more he eats the less irritable he will be which is better for the group as a whole.

Yes he was. Martin was still faffing around, still basking in his relentless gloating and self back patting of winning his stars. He's already made it clear he doesn't like fetching the water.
Is he used to always having his own way in life? It definitely looks that way and he has to make everything about himself.
Of course he'll grind everyone's gears and they'll tire of having to put up with his behaviour and trying to cheer the miserable bugger up.
Imagine having to out up with his infantile performance every time they're eating rice and beans. All he does is whinge and make revolting gestures and noises. I'd send my kids away from the table if they behaved like that.
Those with kids have left them at home and don't need to have to deal with a grown man's petulance

excuse me but the ladies in there seem to be well able to talk up and take care of themsleves so leave our parts out of it.. and for the bully thing , yes in a sort of passive way it is bullying, I felt he was being left out, Danny caused the rumpus making out he was taking care of Scarlett, when he was getting himself some limelight.

I find it amazing that he's reached such an age and appears to have learned nothing about dealing with life's little knocks. Even his son told him to wear his 'Big man suit'. Wouldn't he be just a little ashamed that his son had to say that to him? I felt for him when he was crying because I don't like to see anyone distressed but he needs to stop whingeing and start taking stuff on the chin.

This whole senario reminds me so much of Biggins verses Janice

Everyone sided with Biggins, thought he was right and said Janice was a whinger who did nothing in camp

Now this was when we did have LF through the internet

What we saw on LF was totally different to what was shown on the highlights and Biggins whent on to win and made into a national treasure

Biggins was really awful but people who didnt see his antics on LF did not believe us

Im not saying Martin is bullied, Im not saying he isnt, I am just saying dont believe everything you are fed by the HL programme

TPTB have decided to show Martin as the lazy whinger and Danny as the spokesman for the camp

Im getting deja vu

Oh yes, I remember that scenario well.

With the loss of live feed on this and bb, the show can be completely manipulated of course.

Before this pair entered the jungle, it was quite a happy camp and I was enjoying it, gone are the days when I relished upset and confrontation (I guess that makes me boring now). So, yes, everything is manipulated now and there's not a lot we can do about it.

BIB - I get the feeling he does, at work. And by virtue of being a team captain, I think Martin felt he would just breeze in and slot into place within the camp without having to modify his behaviour. I think some of the celebrities in these 'celebrity' programmes underestimate the fact that they are being placed with peers - i.e. people with similar egos to their own, rather than being surrounded the simpering minions of their imaginations.

It must come as a shock to some of them that everyone else isn't fawning all over them, as they each have their own achievements. There may be mutual respect eventually for those who take the time to find out about their fellow campmates, rather than expecting them just to be grateful for another celebrity's esteemed presence.

Martin does have awareness of this - he made a remark about someone warning him of the difficulties of being a latecomer to the camp. Anyone who wants to fit into an existing group would do better to find out the group's ideals and way of doing things before hoping to stamp any authority on it. Martin is reaping the non-rewards of entering an established group and expecting them to mould to his way of thinking and acting. "Hands up in my team, who agrees with me?" was highly divisive and I think he's struggling to come back from that.

Not that I think Danny is any more likeable - but he's been more successful in recognising and adhering to the group's ethos - that of being positive about everything, and wanting to quell any negativity. Therefore the group have adapted to him better than they have to Martin, as in the main, Danny fits in with their ideals.

I don't see Martin as being bullied. I see him as being someone who came in, thinking he would have more influence on the group than he has discovered he has, and gave some negative first impressions, which he is finding hard to shake off. Kudos to him for apologising to people for his earlier behaviour. I think Danny, Larry and to some extent Scarlett have been a little harsh on him, but he's seen kindness from other camp-members (Adam, Lisa, Wayne), so it's not like he's being isolated.

An insightful post Jayma. Sums everything up really well.

I wonder if he'll learn anything from this experience?

Thanks doormouse. I think I swallowed a dictionary during my lunchbreak.

It does seem as though he's trying to turn things around at times - apologising, keeping his cool when Danny was yelling at him (I thought he came across better than Danny during that confrontation). But he might be one of those people who just rubs people up the wrong way (drawing out his trial tale to the point of tedium, repeatedly calling Scarlett Charlotte).

Still, it was good to hear he wants to make the most out of his jungle experience, despite evidence to the contrary (poor attitude to the rice and beans). I think the best way for him to do that is to approach things more positively, pipe down for a day or two and get on with his tasks. Hopefully his fellow campmates will be more welcoming then and move past his difficult start.

I absolutely hate opinions like this. Why shouldn't a man cry if he's upset? Why the need to turn it into an insult implying it's only a thing a woman would do? No one could say how they would react in a similar situation. Nothing wrong with a man showing his emotions in my opinion.

I don't think he is being bullied but I don't think the others have tried very hard to bring him into the group, he is very down and they should be trying to bring him back up but instead they keep knocking him when he is down. I think the tears were genuine and you could tell he didn't really want a fuss. I think it is a shame that the others keep siding with Danny who I don't think has come across very well.

Wouldn't call it bullying, but it's been a bit uncomfortable to watch on occasion. Maybe production asked Martin and Danny to stir the pot a bit but, if so, it's all going a bit awry.

Martin's proving a difficult camp mate to love and Danny's having a field day. M's giving him bullet after bullet to fire, and seems totally oblivious to the whole situation. How can anyone be so lacking in self-awareness?

Think most of the others will go along with things if only to keep out of Danny's line of fire. Hats off to Lisa and Wayne, though, for showing a bit of empathy. Martin's his own worst enemy and needs all the help he can get.

They will always side with Danny
who is going to go against a bloke who has survived cancer (he told them in every detail)
a bloke who was quite well known,
a bloke who gives his opinion whether wanted or not
a bloke who is well known to belittle others
a bloke who is very pally with Chris Evans

most who are in the jungle are there to further or revive their careers and get a big payday (yes even Scarlett)

they want to get to the end without making an enemy who they think could badmouth them and hurt their chances of mag, ad and TV interview deals

so they dont bother going against Danny because they think he has the influence in the media

being told to stop being a lazy git, get your arse into gear and go and hump some water ten yards is not being treated like a serial killer

It's not pleasant to watch anyone cry but I don't for a second think he's being bullied.
The others have tried in a tactful way to gee him along but he just seems to be one of these "woe is me" people who needs mollycoddled.
The others are suffering as much as he is but they have a positive attitude that keeps camp moral up, having to babysit Martin is becoming a trial in itself. Yes, Danny was abrupt with him but perhaps if Martin stopped whining & just got on with it, he wouldn't find himself in these positions, he really is his own worst enemy.

I was using hyperbole, you mischievious scamp!

But seriously, is getting the water a two man job? Surely Adam should have been stepping up anyway considering Martin had done the trial (and done it well I may say). And Danny did cross a line with him, IMO.

Seriously at the idea that a friendship with Chris Evans would be a reason for wanting to remain on the right side of someone. But hey, thanks for the laugh.

it's probably much quicker with two and I don't think it is camp etiquette to think you can put your feet up because you won a few meals, he'd already wasted about 12 man hours telling them how many stars he had won
