Poor Gorka, that's terrible and I hope he can save his teeth. Dental surgery is not at all pleasant. I wish him well for a speedy recovery.

I wonder if there might have been more to it (I.e- Racially motivated) or just that he was unlucky- Nothing would surprise me anymore”

What is there about Gorka that would make it a racist attack? Unless someone watches Strictly (not likely with thugs) or knows him personally, there is nothing about him to suggest he is not British. Think he was just unlucky.

Just awful. Wouldn't blame him if he doesn't want to return next year. Horrendous people out there.

Robin Windsor got mugged a few years ago as well - I think that was in London though.

Poor Gorka

What an awful thing to happen. Hope he recovers quickly and hope neither of the other guys were hurt also.

Why wasn't the Attack reported to the police?

Either way that's an awful thing to happen although not unexpected in Blackpool. It's pisshead Central.

I wondered that. And why Aljaz and Neil weren't attacked too (though I'm glad they weren't). It sounds opportunistic, maybe an attempted mugging?

Poor Gorka. He must be really shaken up about it all.

If the OP means xenophobic rather than racist, sadly, if the thugs heard him speaking, Gorka's charming accent might have been sufficient motivation.

Shocking behavior, hope he makes a full recovery .

He must report it to the police . Why should the thug get away scot-free . There may be CCTV cameras in the area .

Flamingos is a place I have been to a lot over the years when in Blackpool attending dance comps - although when I went it was primarily though not exclusively a gay club and fellow friends who are gay introduced me to it . It was always a good place to catch some good acts (saw village people and boy george there amongst others) and was always a pretty trouble free place with nice decor to get a late night drink

Can't help but wonder if they were targeted because of it

Really upset at this news and Gorka seems like such a nice person.

Maybe Strictly should stop going to Blackpool.

Well you may think that but my French neighbour who is married to a Scot and has lived here for 20 years had a nasty incident a couple of weeks back. She was speaking on the phone in French and what she described as a respectable looking, middle aged, man dressed in a business suit came up to her. He got in her face barely inches away from her and told it was "now time she effed off back home"

Another woman I know was speaking with her English born, English fathered, children in her mother tongue (not English -she has raised her children to be bilingual) in a shop recently, they also found themsleves on the end of insulting threats.

Both say they have never, ever experienced such behavior before.

Poor Gorka.

Poor guy
As glamorized that this show always makes Blackpool every year, there always seems to be some funny business going there; like Abbey, Sophie, Susanna and a few others whose personal items were stolen at Blackpool 3 years ago.

It's really shocking. Many people seem to think that a Brexit legitimises their bigotry.

The ignorance is boundless in some.

In the words of the great Solomon Burke, if you don't say it's wrong, then that says it's right.

Because there should be good things in the world, here is Solomon

No, sadly. It's a bigger thing... It's not Blackpool. It's not the deindustrialised North. It's not even Brexit, in my opinion, though Brexit is a symptom and a provocation. You can't fix a global issue by keeping out of Blackpool.

Could you not just say something nice rather than doubting if he's hurt? ”

I think the poster is referring to the fact that this report is from The Sun, which is not known for truthful reporting. And that was my thought as well, when I saw the links posted.

Well, it's not as if The Sun doesn't have history there. Not known for being honest and truthful.

Some people are such hateful scumbags. I hope they get caught.
Did Aljaz or Neil get a few punches or kicks into the attackers, they are young fit lads. I hope they at least tried to defend their mate.
Gorka seems like such a sweet person, but sadly bad things happen to good people.

or maybe they said "Not the face, not the face!"
Do you really think the attacker is going to pop up to contradict them at this point?

Really, you think an attempt at humour on this thread is appropriate

I am really sorry for poor Gorka, I hope he is ok.

If it was anything to do with xenophobia I am really horrified at how Brexit seems to have emboldened thugs to think it will be tolerated.

Making a joke of it belittles how awful it really is and normalises the appalling.

Three guys walking towards a predominantly gay club (Flamingos).

Can't help thinking this was an homophobic hate crime.

I hope they catch whoever did this and they get everything they deserve.

Vile creatures!!
