Thank you - I feel the same about the this - I thought it might be a nice talking forum about food but it seems to be "I can do better than you"
Depends on what you want to talk about, someone asked a question, ok they asked about a machine, but to be honest most machines available for the home do a awful job, is a pain in the neck to clean and take up space.

I like kitchen gadgets, coffee makers more than anything , but sometimes these gadgets just make more work.

This must be the longest a thread has went on food and drink without someone adding 'i make my own, its so much cheaper and easier than you think'.

I have a mini chopper (titter). Its just a tiny food processor. it is fantastic for finely cutting things, like onions, garlic chillis and ginger. I bought it because i hate grating anything and ginger and cheese are the worst for it. Wouldnt be much use for larger chunks, but its great for fine chopping and making mayo and curry pastes

'A good knife' is not a machine. I don't know why you seem to find that so difficult to understand. Therefore your reply is useless and not constructive in any way. If you wish to discuss knives, start another thread.

And of course it is preachy to tell people to get an appropriate knife - you have no idea of their budget or ability. Sometimes gadgets are required to take the strain and repetitive nature away from a task.

Ironic that you are bemoaning the fact that this forum is poorly supported when the OP is new member and has had their question turned on them.
It's a piece of simple technology and knives have moved on from flint chips.
Several people in this thread have recommended good knives without "turning the question on the OP" - whatever that means.
You've not recommended anything.
As for budget - a good knife v a "machine" doesn't fall down on that argument, nor on storage space.

And I wasn't "bemoaning" anything about the forum - I was suggesting it needs more positive input rather than posters actually "bemoaning" others who support it.
Such as posts 15 and 16 that "bemoan" yet don't actually contribute any suggestions.
Make a constructive suggestion to the OP.
