I hate Danny
I didn't really know him before but he is inveigling himself into the group by trying to alienate the other new member, Martin. I'm not really a Martin fan but what Danny is doing is low and cowardly. He is publicly belittling him and if he has a problem he should take him to one side and speak to him, not bellow in front of the group and the cameras. I hope the others see through it.

I like him....I think he's very much "what you see is what you get", if he's annoyed about something he'll say so and then it's forgotten. I don't think he's deliberately targeting Martin, just annoyed at his passive aggressive "poor me" attitude.

I think he doesn't want to be associated with Martin due to them coming in together so he's overcompensating.

Yes, he is very loud - one of my sisters is much the same, loud & boisterous but soppy underneath it all, which is how I think Danny might be.
I'd prefer it if Martin could settle in too, I don't like to see anyone upset - after all, it's just a light entertainment prog!

I'm not a fan of his, and whilst I do think Martin took the whole gloating thing a bit to far, Danny was extremely irritating rubbing it in when his team won; if the roles were reversed I suspect he would have reacted the same as Martin.
The way he spoke to Martin last night was highly unpleasant, it portrayed Danny as a school bully and he was highly condescending, no wonder Martin got upset because he was humiliated. |

Not keen on Danny but Martin would test the patience of a saint. His constant moaning and need for praise must be exhausting. I did feel sorry for him last night but I find it difficult to understand why he's taking so long to get to grips with the reality of being in camp. To date, he's coming across as self-absorbed and blind to other people's needs/feelings. It's no wonder people are losing patience with him.

It would be nice if he could "say so" quietly. He reminds me of a school bully. Hopefully both he and Martin will settle into camp life. I know a lot of viewers love the arguments but I don't like to see people genuinely upset, and I do feel Martin's tears were genuine.
It looked obvious to me that he'd been giving Martin the benefit of the doubt all day (as everyone was)....and then decided enough was enough. Martin had been given chance after chance, and now the gloves were off. When Martin tried to backchat, Danny reiterated precisely what the problem was. Loud enough to keep Martin from having a hissy fit. He was articulate, never deviated from the point he wanted to make, he was angry but 100 percent controlled. The world needs more people like Danny Baker. |

I thought he was heroic when he shouted at Martin. He was clear, concise, and he'd had enough of Martin's behaviour.

Backchattng is something that a child does to an adult, or maybe a subordinate to a boss. An inappropriate word in this instance. Martin and Danny are equals. "Defend himself" might be more suitable in the circumstances.

I don't blame Danny, he snapped and had enough as I probably would have done too after putting up with Martin's passive aggressive behaviour all day and patronising way of talking to Scarlett to weasel out of his job.

Indeed! (Very strange, the use of the word 'backchat' isn't it!)
Instead of backchat use answer back. same thing. Either way Martin was wrong. That's what I meant by backchat. Martin defending himself when he was wrong in the first place. Misinterpret my words in any way you want. But there will always be just one accurate meaning, which you can of course disagree with. For some reason you decided not to disagree with me by articulating your own thoughts. Instead you decided to deliberately misinterpret my words, by taking them out of context, and then redefining the meaning. |

Also Danny was assertive (not aggressive), straight to the point and not holding a grudge after. Martin, for a man in his 50s is acting very childishly, especially followed by all the crying about it afterwards. I think Scarlett is acting rather childish but even she comes across as more of an adult than the embarrassing Martin.

I care not for either men so I'm not trying to defend either, so your opinion of who you think is in the wrong matters little to me. |

I wonder why Danny didn't have a go at Adam as well. Adam was in the camp all day long. No trials for him, yet the water was still dry. Collection of the water is the job for both Martin and Adam. Adam even said as much to Martin when they were collecting the water.
Martin is a pain though. A very needy, self absorbed man that would drive me bonkers if I had to share space with him. Not keen on Danny either, but at least he's self sufficient. Martin sucks the life out of the camp with his need for constant praise. |

I think I perfectly articulated my own thoughts in my OP, and didn't see the need to repeat myself but as you wish. Danny, rather than having a quiet word with Martin, chose to address him in public, imo to make himself look big and important and ingratiate himself with the others. Some people are interpreting this as "speaking his mind", you described him as "heroic", but the bigger man would have taken him to one side rather than talking down to him. To me, this is the action of a loudmouthed bully. I agree, Martin can be irritating, but no need to talk down to him like that. |

In fairness last night, all the others were biting their lips when Martin refused to do the water.
In the end it took Baker to tell him because no-one else would. I think they use Baker so he gets the heat instead of them. |

I take it this is in reply to my post rather than the post you quoted.

To me, this is the action of a loudmouthed bully. I agree, Martin can be irritating, but no need to talk down to him like that. And the reason why you are wrong is that Martin exhibited continued disrespectful behaviour to Scarlet. All day long. Martin is more than irritating, he ignores people when they are being polite to him, because he doesn't feel that they are worth communicating with. That's my interpretation of his behaviour with Scarlett. That kind of personality trait, in a tight knit community where there is no immediate escape creates a pressure cooker environment which creates intense anger. I think he views Scarlett as a runner in his production team who exists only to be at his beck and call. Therefore, how dare she tell him to fetch water, however correct and polite she may be. I think Danny has seen this too (as well as others)...and Danny let rip. Martin deserved a verbal bashing. It acted like a massive slap in the ego for him. It's the best thing that could have happened to him in my opinion. Martin's a total numpty. In his bushtucker trial he dropped two stars by mistake and tried to blame someone or something or anything other than himself because he lost the stars. When Ant and Dec very reasonably reminded him he had to make sure all the stars were placed in the bag, he spat out a few condescending angry comments in their direction, which Ant and Dec took the mickey out of. Martin is a horrible spoilt brat and comes across as a sad little middle aged man-child with no self awareness. And then, when nobody supports his selfish point of view, he sits down and starts crying. Go Danny, Go Danny...! |

He also made it clear that he hates getting the water when he whinged (some more) about what hard work it was. Adam was on his way to get more water after dinner and Scarlet asked Martin for the second time just since dinner to help Adam. He again didn't go, argued back and as if she was lying, faffed around with the fire, choosing his own job priority, getting on everyone's wick and Danny kicked off. As Danny said if the camp President asks him to get water and carry it back on his head that's what he has to do. Good for him, Martin certainly deserved it. |

She definitely has a game plan to be queen of the jungle, whilst Danny obviously wants to be king. The best person to have dealt with Martin's behaviour would have been Larry, who has shown himself to be diplomatic. |

Adam got the water himself during the day while Martin had instead a few times, argued about it and talked down to Scarlet, hadn't done it and left it to Adam. Wayne said the same.
