The real-life Bishop of Uppsala is male:

Although his direct boss the Archbishop of Uppsala is female

Just caught up with it - It's rather good.

The killer has been instructed to kill 'godless' people by that awful American preacher. Somehow I don't think he'll want to kill the autistic girl.

I like looking at the Swedes house interiors.

I still want to know why the Swedes and possibly the Danes have doors that open outwards?

In theory harder to jemmy open an outward-opening than smash through an inward-opening door that relies only on where the locks and possibly bolts or hinges are holding it.

The police seem to manage it in all the Swedish dramas I've seen

I wonder how often people get bashed in the face?

At a guess.

There's more space. (my bathroom door opens outwards)
When it's been snowing heavily, the snow doesn't fall into the house when the front door is open.
You can bash your way out the door if there's a fire. ( rather than opening it inwards trying get out.

Especially in that hotel corridor.

Talking about hotel corridors reminded me I was quite amused on my first (and only) trip to Sweden that the Swedish for lift (aka elevator) is "hiss".

I always thought it was to push against the snow outside, tho doesn't make sense for flats or hotel rooms

No stone unturned when it comes to PC relationships typical BBC and no wonder Sweden is F******..
Last time I looked Sweden was far from f.....

Enjoyed these first two, will stick with it. Lead was in The Bridge I believe.

Oh and did the opening shots of a caravan in the wood remind anyone of the camper van in The Missing?

The camper van, yes. In fact there were several shots in the opening credits that resembled The Missing (and how good is it.)

Yes, there are some 'box-ticking' elements in Modus, but overall it's been an interesting start. Let's see how things develop for the remainder of the series.

Depends on whom you speak to (judging by the various comments on the web, news media, social commentators etc,.)

Interestingly enough, the Swedish drama 'Blues Eyes', which was shown More 4 earlier this year, covered the issue of immigration, integration, the far-right etc,.

Yes I enjoyed Blue Eyes but felt it copped our towards the end. Sweden and the other Nordic countries have had their moments. Naively Sweden only recently introduced law stating you couldn't support terrorism or go abroad and fight or train. Previously 300 had gone to Isis to do just that and worriedly returned in most cases ! All in all id say a decent society with capped rent and a good standard of living, we could learn ....... Xx

I agree with you about the ending to Blue Eyes. It's like the programme makers didn't know how to end it.

I didn't know about the terrorism law you mentioned. Seems bizarre that it took them so long to introduce it.

I have skipped all the Aussie babble and have not watched a crime drama since Trapped and Blue Eyes earlier this year.

Modus, as others well pointed out, is inferior to these, aside from Blue Eyes cop out ending. The Scandinavian crime writers are obsessed with religious and especially protestant sect extremism, along with neo-nazis, it is a regular theme. Too predictable.

And Modus sounds like a style of bookcase or kitchen unit, lame.

Hardly lame.

Modus is a Latin word.

The book this is based on has been changed considerably .
Vik and the detective are married in it and they have a child together .
I did think they seemed to know each other when he went into the hotel to see what was going on as he was passing but then got confused when he picked the angel up and then was looking sadly at the woman in the cemetry.
Whatever the criticism about Nordic. Noir I look forward to their dramas far more than anything we produce .

That's what I meant about the seeming naivety . As a society they were open to giving refuge to those in need. I don't think it crossed their mind that some of the same people would turn on them. There is now division and the open border between Sweden and Denmark has been tightened. Don't know if u watch The Bridge but if they made another series the change in law would scupper Saga Noren from nipping back and forth over the Oresund bridge

Oh good I love The Bridge my favourite of all the Scandi crime dramas. Wonder if they will show the border guards interrogating Saga like they did to someone I know;

Where have you been?
Copenhagen.
Have u been living in Christiana?
(Laughs) No
(Guard leans in) where are the drugs?

So clearly they are really focussed on stopping terrorism 🙄

I'm definitely in the minority on here, when I say that I gave up on 'The Bridge' very early on. I just couldn't get into it.
