I think it would be a good idea to give X Factor a year off to let it rest. Its becoming a bit stale now.

Having seen some episodes of Stars In Their Eyes on Challenge, it struck me how fresh it still is, and the contestants had to work that little bit harder. Its fun, harmless family entertainment, and there have been lots of new artists out since it ended to spice things up ie; Pink.

They could keep it the same - or make it an hour long and add a "group" section or "family" section. Thoughts?

Would Mathew Kelly return? Could it have a couple of judges that commented on performances - without interfering with the public vote of course! Sharon and Cheryl?

Thoughts?

They revived it a few years ago with Harry Hill. It was awful and thankfully axed.

Too late, the contract is already signed for X Factor.

I think it's worse than the XF.

It could be time to rest or retire the X Factor, but Stars in your eyes isn't the right thing to replace it. As little-monster said, the harry hill version was terrible - completely the wrong choice of host.

I do think though that a return to a more simple singing show, possibly not even a contest at all, could be a refreshing change. How about a show where people get the chance to do a duet with established band that they are a fan of?

Or, how about a war of the tribute acts? Each week five established tribute acts play a three-song mini gig, the public vote their favourite on a pure vote-only knock out basis. All the winners face off in a live final.

Harry Hill wouldn't be allowed near it! It would be hosted by Mathew Kelly, Dermot O Leary, Ant & Dec, Davina Mcoll, or Lisa Riley.

Although Harry Hill did make a mockery of it, I think even when he wasn't on screen it still felt cheap and dated.. actually, Harry was the best bit of it. It just doesn't work as a format anymore I think.

I would prefer "You Bet!" to make a comeback, as I always had a soft spot for that show.

That settles it. Blind Date, You Bet and Stars in their eyes and Dermot's about (Beadles about with Dermot) to replace X Factor in 2017

Harry Hill''s spin on it was terrible though, if you look at the older incarnations of it it always felt like a bit of a spectacle, especially the finals and had the campy fun that makes Strictly so successful. ITV fumbled it's return though and killed the format for good imo

It all went a bit downhill after Matthew was pretty much forced out after the child sex abuse charges of which he was later fully cleared but it basically ruined his TV career even though he did try to return and he just went into acting instead otherwise I reckon he would still be doing Saturday light entertainment shows to this day!

Couldn't stand HI I'M CAT DEELEY AND I'M PRESENTING STARS IN THEIR EYES!!!

There weren't even any charges. He was just questioned.

Well I'd scrap X Factor completely but they've just renewed it until 2019 so that's the end of that.

That's a rather unfair assessment. He was always an actor first and a presenter second and the decision to leave Stars In Their Eyes in 2004, although certainly influenced by the events of the previous year was entirely his own. He has since had an extremely distinguished theatre career winning an Olivier Award alongside a TV career which has included acclaimed performances in Bleak House and Cold Blood and more recently a spell in Benidorm. So it's more a case of returning to his first love than having had his career 'ruined'. He just chooses not to do that kind of work anymore.

x Factor takes up neary 2 hours of a Saturday night. Prior to this it was 30 - 45 minute shows like Blind Date, Gladiators, You Bet, Stars In Their Eyes etc. It was better because you got so much out of your evening. Yes Noel's house Party was a bit longer but anything could happen on that so it was okay.

Since I got a PVR it certainly doesn't take up 2 hours of my night.

It's a terrible shame that the old guard of ITV entertainers disintegrated in the early half of the 2000s. 2001 saw Michael Barrymore's career end with that unfortunate incident. 2003 Cilla handed in her notice and quit Blind Date live on air due to all the alienating changes in production. And with Matthew Kelly's resignation in 2004 after being rightfully annoyed at ITV for not supporting him, Saturday nights haven't been the same since.

What it's been replaced with is very dull in comparison. Ant & Dec are the last proper Saturday night entertainers they have left with a similar grandeur.

I know but what I'm saying is that even when Harry wasn't on screen (like during the performances themselves), it still felt ridiculous.

X factor has totally outstayed its welcome, a bit stale? understatement of the year!!! Time it was totally axed, or given to channel 5 if they really must continue with it, so some decent Saturday night shows can take it's place! I used to love it, but soon got sick of the sob stories, the lack of a good organic xmas no 1. I've not watched it for about 4 years now, loving strictly though, but would like to have something else to watch on a Saturday night!

Since I learnt to use the off switch, it takes up even less of mine!
